CCIE's Working Groups Need Volunteers

Are you interested in working on issues that will help diversify the legal profession? CCIE has working groups attacking this issue on three fronts:  pipeline (supply of diverse students), recruiting, and retention. All three working groups need new volunteers. This is a great way to meet other attorneys, legal professionals, and law students, as well as make an impact on important issues. Volunteers meet every other month with their working group and the time commitment is very flexible. Contact CCIE's Executive Director - Kathleen Nalty - for more information or to volunteer.

Work-Life Balance CLE on June 24

The Colorado Women's Bar Association and the 2020 Law Firm Initiative Committee of the Colorado Bar Association will host a CLE addressing the topic of work-life balance on Thursday, June 24 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP. "Balanced Hours Programs: Is Work-Life Balance Achievable?" will include a discussion with partners, associates, in-house and government lawyers practicing on a reduced schedule. Register by June 21. More information and registration form.

CCIE Presents at NALP Convention

CCIE was invited by the National Association for Law Placement to present at its annual convention for law firms and law schools in April. CCIE's Executive Director, Kathleen Nalty, participated on a panel with Dr. Arin Reeves, the national expert consulting with CCIE on its innovative inclusiveness manual and program, along with Jean Howery, Recruiting Director at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP. Brownstein is one of 11 legal organizations in Denver implementing the steps of CCIE's inclusiveness manual.

To learn more about CCIE's manual and other resources that will help take your organization's diversity and inclusive efforts to the next level, go to CCIE's new website: www.legalinclusiveness.org.

CCIE Establishes Inclusiveness Awards

CCIE's Board of Directors has established a new Inclusiveness Awards Program to honor individuals and legal organizations that have exhibited exemplary leadership and commitment to inclusiveness. Three awards will be given: CCIE Leadership Award, CCIE Outstanding Member Award, and CCIE Volunteer of the Year Award. The CCIE Board of Directors will nominate and select the award winners after conducting  interviews of nominees. Award recipients for 2010 will be honored at the 2011 Rocky Mountain Legal Diversity Summit. Read more about the awards.

Diversity Still Priority in Tough Economy

A May article in the California Lawyer reported that  legal organizations and corporations are continuing diversity efforts, despite the  economic downturn. Diversity managers and directors have been retained, and corporations are increasingly seeking law firms with diverse and inclusive attorney composition.  Read the California Lawyer article.
