CCIE Launches New Inclusiveness Website
& Receives Praise from NALP

Image - Beyond Diversity Inclusiveness in the Legal Workplace

In April, CCIE launched its innovative, interactive website -www.legalinclusiveness.org - and already the site is receiving accolades. The National Association for Law Placement (NALP) promoted the site in their newsletter and touted CCIE's 350+ page online manual, Beyond Diversity: Inclusiveness in the Legal Workplace, as "one of the most impressive resources available."

In addition to the manual, the website provides news, articles, tools, and  a forum where users can exchange information and knowledge. Areas of the site, including sections of the manual, are available to the public free of charge. Full access is available to CCIE members or through a yearly subscription.

Study Shows the Challenges Women Face in Law Firms

The ABA's Commission on Women in the Profession held the first ever regional summit for in-house counsel last week in Philadelphia.  Attendees of the summit learned the results of a study that asked nearly 700 female partners how they are compensated, assigned work, and promoted in their firms.  The study also revealed how little the client perspective plays into which attorneys get their work. Since client  relations and billable hours are measurements for compensation and promotion within firms, who is chosen to work for a client is critically important. Read the article discussing the survey and what female General Counsel are encouraged to do to help give work to female attorneys within firms by clicking here.

Federal Judiciary Working to Hire More Diverse Clerks

Under pressure from Congress, the federal judiciary is working to hire more minority law clerks at the district and appeals court levels, while acknowledging that "there is significant room for improvement" in the diversity of clerks.

The Judicial Conference of the United States is focused on its hiring practices as part of a response to questions from a House budget subcommittee last year about the lack of minority law clerks. The judiciary's policymaking body also compiled statistics on the percentage of minority law clerks during the past seven years which have not been widely publicized before now.  Click here to see the statistics and learn more.
