Two Flights to Victory:  Jimmy Doolittle and Paul Tibbets

Featured speaker is the British historian, educator and author Dr. David G. Styles who will present the compelling story of a series of encounters of chance connecting Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, leader of the bold April 1942 bombing raid on Japan, and Colonel Paul Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay, the B-29 that dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Dr. Styles will place the Pacific Campaign within the context of these first and last bombing missions against Japan in World War II - and explain how these two men came together, enabling Doolittle to put Tibbets in line to earn his own place in History.

About the Speaker

David G Styles is an aero/auto historian who has published nineteen books to date, mostly automotive histories, winning twenty two international awards along the way. His first was the coveted (US) Society of Automotive Historians Cugnot Award for his first major book, "As Old As The Industry - Riley", which was described as: "The best book on automotive history published in 1982". He later won an Award of Distinction from the same society for his second work on Riley car history. The International Automotive Media Conference has, over twelve years, bestowed eight Gold Medals on Dr Styles for his writing, editorial and illustrative works and he has written many articles and papers for presentation on aviation subjects. His current major work, "Two Flights to Victory", is to be published in 2011 and he is currently working on another book, "The Tuskegee Airmen and Beyond" for future publication.
