Get Off The Couch, Potato!

This fun beginners fitness program is 30 days of useful, simple steps that you can take to "fit" more fitness into your daily routine. No long hours in the gym, no pricey equipment, just you, your couch, your toothbrush and better health!

Pick up a copy for your out of shape boomer friends, or your texting addicted grandkids, or that new mom who can't find time to work out. This book teaches you that exercise can be done all day long without you even realizing it!

So, what are you waiting for? It's on sale this week, just for you HERE!

The worst heat of summer seems to have arrived, and although it's a little cooler out here in the country than for my city dwelling friends and family, it's still hard to get motivated to exercise when you work up a sweat just walking from your bed to the bathroom...

Here are a couple of my favorite motivational quotes for getting out there and getting my exercise done, before I start my day and fill it with reasons why I don't have time to exercise:

"The way you think, the way you behave, the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years." - Deepak Chopra

"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to reach my destination." - Jimmy Dean.

I know it's difficult sometimes, but find some motivation that works for you. Think of staying healthy to play with your grandkids and great grandchildren, or think of being semi-retired and travelling with your significant other or family members, or simply think of all the older people you've known who couldn't walk anymore, were weak, and didn't enjoy life. You do not want to end up like that!
Personally, I'm planning to "skate in on a skateboard with a Champagne glass in one hand, popping a strawberry into my mouth with the other hand, yelling Wow! What a ride!" at the end of my days on this planet.

Enjoy this lovely summer weather, keep cool with some fresh fruit smoothies, and check out my book recommendations. My beginners fitness program, Get Off The Couch, Potato!, is filled with ideas for "fitting" fitness into your daily schedule without spending hours in the gym. And don't forget to share a laugh with your friends and family - get those endorphins moving around!

Fun Exercises For When It's Hot Enough To Roast Duck On Your Front Porch!

Thank goodness there are many types of exercises that we can do to get our daily dose of both aerobics and strength training. Here are a few things I recommend when it's too hot to go biking or running. As a bonus, all of these are fun family activities, allowing you to spend quality time with your family, while demonstrating your belief in the importance of exercise and how to make exercise enjoyable!

1.  Take the family swimming. There are lakes and/or pools in just about every community these days and the cool water will refresh your body and your spirits. Plus, it's a great way to spend more time with your family. I have some great memories of playing "Marco Polo" in the lake with my kids...

2.  Stay inside with the air-conditioning and play Twister or Simon Says! Remember Simon Says? You can stand on one foot to practice your balance, march in place, do a short Irish jig, a one handed pushup or anything else that strikes your fancy. Again - you'll have fun AND involve the whole family in physical activity.

3.  Shake your tree. This is a fabulous ancient Chinese traditional exercise that's fun to do with kids, makes everyone laugh so you release some endorphins (feel good hormones), and when you do it for at least ten minutes, it's an aerobic workout. HERE is a link to a video demonstration of "shaking your tree" that I did for my menopause series. It's not just for menopause, it combats any weight gain, so shake that body!

If you simply MUST get outside and run, please do it in the early morning or evening when it's a little cooler. Then you can jump in the lake :)
