If you're ready to kick back and enjoy a leisurely summer read, I must share with you a fabulous new debut novel by Gary Goldstick - it's Saving the Karamazovs, and I can't say enough good things about it! Gary's been getting rave reviews, including mine. From the war scenes to the love scenes, this book snaps, crackles and pops!
Set in the unstable business world of the 1990 Gulf War, Saving the Karamazovs tells the story of three brothers whose good intentions and dysfunctions pull their family into an ugly war of its own. Twenty years after a heroic but bloody tour in Vietnam, Jeff Bascomb fails to protect the people who depend on him. A financial scandal puts his company in jeopardy, he and his wife stand to lose millions, his parents may lose their retirement, and his employees will lose their livelihoods. His dependable older brother, Kevin, is now mired in poor health and depression, and his only advice is to call their youngest brother Jerry away from a lucrative Wall Street job, back to L.A. to become the company's interim CEO. Jeff and Jerry have warred their entire lives for Kevin's affection, but agree to a truce for the family's sake. Jerry is a diplomatic negotiator, keen money expert, and a brilliant manager, the perfect man for the job, until he falls in love with Jeff's mistress, Helen. The secrets Helen reveals about their family places the company on the front lines of a battle that could hurt each and every one of them beyond repair.
And, when you buy the book, you'll get more than 30 free downloadable gifts! What a great summer deal! Get yours HERE!

Greetings!
Today is a good day. Got plenty of my sunshine vitamin and exercise over the weekend and even waded in the water at the lake. It's still too cold for me to swim, but I love wading, so that was cool. Best of all, we got to sit at the dock and watch the sunset over the lake twice this week! There's nothing as beautiful to my eyes as sunset over the water. Watching the orange ball's reflection on the water as it goes down and then the lovely mix of colors in the sky after it sinks proves that mother nature is an amazing artist! Benjamin Franklin is often quoted, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!" I would amend that to "Beer while watching the sunset..." Yes, indeed!
Today I've included new information about some added benefits you'll enjoy when you take Omega 3 fish oil supplements, a book recommendation, some humor to share and announcements.
Additionally, who do you love is living with cancer every day, or has passed away from this disease? Does it make you frustrated, angry? I remember how angry I was when I lost my big brother to Melanoma in 1993! He was one of the sweetest men in the world and there was nothing I could do - very frustrating...
Well, we can do something positive today - make a statement, fight back! My friend Ned is riding his bicycle 100 miles on June 10th to Kick Cancer's Butt! Be part of the ride and the solution by supporting the ride, click here now! How much would it have been worth to you to have been able to send that friend or loved one another birthday card? What is it worth to you to be able to keep sending birthday cards to that friend or loved one? Fight back, make a difference, support Ned's ride, click here now!
Thanks for your support, and, Best of Health,
Kathi

More Good News About Fish Oil |
If you've followed any health news coverage in recent years, you already know that Omega 3 fish oil helps you fight inflammation and boost brain power, however, you might not have considered using fish oil for a sluggish thyroid. A recent study in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry showed that Omega 3s increase thyroid hormone signaling within your liver. This is significant because the thyroid gland produces two hormones (T3 and T4) that regulate the metabolic rate of our cells. These two thyroid hormones determine how effectively our liver cells metabolize the carbohydrates, protein, and fat that we consume. When our cells have adequate amounts of essential Omega 3 fatty acids, these thyroid hormones work much more effectively at burning fat. How cool is that!?
According to the National Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases Information Service hypothyroidism affects about 5% of Americans, mostly women. Hypothyroidism happens when your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough hormones and this results in a slow working or sluggish metabolism. Often this means weight gain, or the inability to lose those stubborn last few pounds no matter how hard you try. Fish oil, then, might be just what you need to crank up your metabolism by boosting the efficiency of your thyroid hormones.
In additional studies from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition similar results were found. The first one found that when Omega 3s were added to the diet of 27 women with type 2 diabetes, the women burned more fat without interfering with their insulin sensitivity. The other study found that fish oil, combined with regular exercise, burns fat and reduces the risk for heart disease.
It's nice to know that fish oil, which is available in any grocery or drug store, can provide a little extra boost for your metabolism! |
