"Unconquered": a true story that's hard to believe!
Book launch today with great prize giveaways!
If the new book "Unconquered" were fiction, you'd say it was simply too far-fetched! In a tiny Louisiana town during the Depression, three cousins are drawn together by their love of music. The chance that any one of them will become famous is remote at best. But all THREE will eventually become national icons -- taking completely different paths: rocker Jerry Lee Lewis, preacher Jimmy Swaggart and country crooner Mickey Gilley!

Greetings!
I love fruit, berries and nuts. My friend Ned says that I must have been a bear in a previous life!
Today I am including a great recipe for one of my favorite fruits, the tangerine, but the best part of this fruit is the peel! I know that some of you are saying YUK! Hear me out.
- The white pith inside tangerine peels contains large amounts of hesperidin. Hesperidin is a flavonoid responsible for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. The highest concentrations of other nutrient rich compunds such as tangeretin and nobiletin are also contained in the skin.
- A Canadian study published in 2004 showed that tangerine peel has 20 times the antioxidants of the juice and helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.
- A May 2011 study published in The Journal of the American Diabetes Association, found that a flavonoid in tangerines called nobiletin significantly reduces the risk of metabolic syndrome and prevented obesity in a group of rats eating a western diet high in fat and sugar.
- According to Master Lin of Spring Forest QiQong, the peel of an organic tangerine also helps to relieve stress, detoxify the liver, and balance blood sugar. Nice!
So give the recipe a try and then let me know what you think.

Tangerine Peel Tea
I just tried this tea and it's delicious!
Rinse then peel an organic tangerine, taking care to retain the white pith on the inside of the peel. Let the peel dry naturally over night. Insecticide sprays are widely applied over citrus crops, so organic fruits are best. In fact, anytime you need the peel or zest of a citrus fruit, it's a good idea to go organic. If not organic, wash the fruit really well before peeling.
In the morning, boil a cup of pure water, tear off a couple of small pieces of the dried tangerine peel and place into the cup to steep for 2-3 minutes. I like to sweeten it with a little raw honey.
You can also make a pot of this tea and then cool it for a lovely cool citrus delight after a day out in the hot sun.
Dried tangerine peel will last for at least two months if kept in a dry sealed container and stored it in a dark, cool place.

This week's Hospital Humor
courtesy of Cynthia Siegfried |
Whatever Works!
A woman went to the doctor's office, where she was seen by a doctor who had just completed his residency, and was new to this hospital. After about four minutes in the examination room, she burst out, slammed the door, and ran screaming down the hall.
An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was. Slowly catching her breath, she told him.
After listening, he had her sit down and told her to go relax in another room. The older doctor then stomped down the hall to the examination room and demanded, "What's the matter with you, Doctor? Mrs. Bloggs is 73 years old. She has six grown children and eleven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?"
The new doctor continued to write on his clipboard and, without looking up, replied "Does she still have the hiccups?"
