Don't get frustrated. Get ORGANIZED!

I don't consider myself a messy person. But like almost everyone, I had various pockets of disorganization that I couldn't seem to conquer. Certain drawers and closets, the attic, a pile of un-filed documents, the back of my garage, etc.

These little islands of clutter quietly aggravate you without your being aware of it - until they're gone. Then, you find yourself awestruck at the difference in your sense of well-being. I'd like to share with you the secret to my success in conquering clutter.  Greetings!

Always the optimist, I am hoping that this break in the weather is Spring on it's way in...
The sun has been shining brighter and stays out longer lately and I am really enjoying the feel of it on my skin. Not only is my body making the Vitamin D it needs through this lovely sun exposure, but my spirits are raised and I feel more energy. Winter is not my favorite season, so an early end will make me very happy!
Speaking of the sunshine Vitamin, I have included some new information today about the differences in Vitamin D supplements and which one is best to use. As you know, I recommend getting some sun exposure on your skin for about 15 minutes each day as this is the best way to raise and maintain your blood levels of this essential vitamin, but when that's not possible, supplementation is your next best solution. Vitamin D helps keep our bones healthy, boosts immunity and most definitely helps keep us Baby Boomers younger longer!
Enjoy the article, don't miss the announcements, especially my friend Dr. Mark Hyman's breakthrough new book The Blood Sugar Solution, and keep on laughing!

Best of Health

D2, D3 or R2D2?!
I loved the little R2D2 character in the original Star Wars movie - when I wasn't oogling Harrison Ford, that is...!

Seriously though, I have posted often about the importance of Vitamin D, and whenever new evidence comes out I bring it to you as quickly as I read it. I have been asked a few times recently for my recommendations on taking D2 or D3 so I've been on the look out for any research on that subject.

New studies have shown that the difference between Vitamin D2, which is what dairy processors used to fortify milk with, does not raise our blood levels for D. In fact, one study has shown a 6% reduction in mortality rates among older women who supplemented with D3 as opposed to those who took D2. That's good enough for me! I'll only be taking Vitamin D3 from now on!

According to The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, D3 is approximately 87% more potent in raising and maintaining serum blood levels of this important vitamin. In fact, the authors further state "Given its greater potency and lower cost, D3 should be the preferred treatment option."

This is on top of 2 other studies showing the marked difference between Vitamin D2 and D3. The Vitamin D Council has gone so far as to exclaim "You would think a paper that took a look at tens of thousands of subjects and analyzed the efficacy of prescription vitamin D (D2) and over-the-counter vitamin D (D3) would warrant a news story or two. To my knowledge, these papers are the first to paint such a clear picture about the efficacy between D3 and D2. While there may be explanations for D3's superiority other than improved efficacy, for the time being, these papers send doctors a message: use D3, not D2."

In light of these new findings, many diary processors have switched over to Vitamin D3 for fortifying their milk, but not all of them have, so it's worth checking which one is in your milk if you still drink pasteurized cow's milk.

For those of us who supplement, no question - pick up D3.

A LITTLE HUMOR FOR YOUR TUESDAY

After putting her grandchildren to bed for a sleepover, a grandmother washed off her makeup, changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and began to color her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. At last she stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say in a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"
