My book, STOP Back Pain - Kiss Your Back Neck and Sciatic Nerve Pain Goodbye!, is still on the best seller lists! Thanks to all who helped make that possible. Here is a sample of the newest rave reviews: "STOP Back Pain! Kiss Your Back, Neck and Sciatic Nerve Pain Goodbye!" by Kathi Casey, ERYT, CPI is for those of us who are out of shape from daily stressful lives and taking no time for ourselves and for those of us who sit too long at work until we have "computer neck" and more. Her techniques are helpful for those who have just gotten over an illness and require physical rehabilitation and energy rejuvenation. For those like me, Kathi Casey focuses on the causes and methods for relieving sciatic pain. Trained in Yoga, Pilates, Somatics and Acupressure, she provides a variety of photographically illustrated techniques, along with easy instructions, to reduce pain, gain flexibility, and lose weight. She features one important pose that relaxes all of the muscles in our bodies without medication. When using this pose prior to the seven major stretching exercises she proposes, the Yogic strengthening methods become easier to do. She includes stretches for all muscles around your hip, lower back, and buttocks as well a neck-and-shoulder maneuver done with finger pressure on applicable muscle points. . . and more. Deep breathing techniques are used while doing her stretch routine. You can modify and replace certain exercises with alternatives so you can fully participate. I know from my personal experience that lying around waiting for the back pain to go away has never been an option. Prolonged rest only creates more weakness, pain, and stiffness. Taking the initiative to make our lives as muscular-skeletal pain-free as possible is the better solution. That is why I highly recommend "Stop The Back Pain" which provides the basic fundamentals for relieving pain. This book is more user-friendly and motivational than most books on this subject." Carolyn Mordecai Thanks Carolyn! If you know anyone with back pain - tell them about this book today! It's HERE on Amazon. |

Greetings!
Happy Valentines Day!
I remember as a teen and young adult, I loved the idea of flowers - red roses on Valentines Day. Back then it seemed the most romantic gift a gal could receive. Times have changed for me, however, and I now find red roses don't really do anything for me. In fact, I'm not sure they ever did. Did I simply get caught up in the advertising campaigns for FTD?
What I am looking forward to tonight is a lovely home-cooked dinner, just the two of us, a glass of red wine and a piece of dark chocolate for dessert. Mmmmmm.
Whatever your plan is, enjoy yourself and the comedy, book recommendations, announcements as well as one of my favorite February recipes!
Best of Health,
Kathi

A Vantines Day Treat That's Good For You!
|
I'm not a big dessert eater. Pies, cakes, pastries, and ice cream are not appealing to me. Give me an ounce of dark chocolate and I'm in heaven. So in honor of Valentines Day and Chocolate which seem to naturally go together, here is my favorite Valentines desert - which is good any time of year as well. Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
Start with 1 pint of the biggest organic strawberries that you can find. Fortunately around this time of year, there are usually some large ones in the supermarket for just this recipe! Since strawberries are on the "dirty dozed" list of fruits and veggies that contain the most pesticides, I recommend organic. Rinse them well, but don't cut the stems off. Set them aside to dry while you melt the chocolate. In the top of a double boiler, melt down a 4.5 oz. bar of dark chocolate (85% is best). Dip each strawberry in the chocolate while it's still warm and then set them stem side down on a cooling rack. I usually hold them for a few extra seconds so that the chocolate is not still dripping off. If necessary, you can reheat the chocolate until you get all the strawberries done. If you are very creative, you can also dip them on an angle on each side so that the red showing above the chocolate is heart shaped. This takes a lot of patience, though, so I usually do a few for the edges like that and the rest are plain. :) After they cool, place them on a fancy plate and refrigerate until serving. Yummmmm, I think I'll make some right now! |

|
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go
back to its old dimensions.
--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Thursday Feb 16th, Dr. Carolyn Dean and I will be talking about heart health on Living Better at 50+ Radio! The show begins at 3pm Eastern.
We'll be sharing concrete examples of how to keep our hearts healthy and vital well into our "golden years."
Learn how to quell that ever present stress and keep it from wreaking havoc in our lives through simple techniques like:
- The many forms of magnesium that can relax the heart muscle, lower blood pressure and dissolve calcium build up in the arteries
- How a broken heart can actually lead to a heart attack and why the symptoms of heart disease are different for women.
- To use the Master Cleanser lemonade formula spiked with cayenne as a natural blood thinner, and ginger for heartburn that you hope is not heart pain.
- How busy multi-taskers can "fit" fitness into our daily routines, to keep our hearts, bones and muscles in optimum condition.
It's going to be fun and lively, you'll learn some great stuff and there will even be some fabulous suprise guest comedy! You'll have a great time, come join us!

A LITTLE HUMOR is good for our hearts! |

This one is courtesy of publishing guru Dan Poynter.
The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with:
Herd of cows,
a Flock of chickens,
a School of fish
and a Gaggle of geese.
However, less widely known is:
a Pride of lions,
a Murder of crows
(as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens),
an Exaltation of doves
and, presumably because they look so wise:
a Parliament of owls.
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most
obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.
And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? ? ?
Believe it or not .......
a Congress!
A CONGRESS OF BABOONS! Yeah...
OK, not really... they're a Troop. But don't you
like it better Poynter's way!
