Webinar: Managing the Legal and Risk Issues of Cloud Computing -

February 10, 2011, 11:00 a.m. ET

cloud computingThe enormous quantities of electronic information being created by organizations are variously critical organizational assets, sources of risks and management challenges. Movement of organizations toward the multi-tenant server-based "public cloud" heightens the need for the involvement of counsel in structuring relationships, due diligence and oversight.

To understand the legal and risk issues of cloud computing, please join moderator Eugene Weitz, Chair of the ITechLaw In-House Committee from Computer Sciences Corporation's Legal Department and speakers Jon Neiditz, partner and founder of
Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough's Information Management Practice, and Jon Olson, General Counsel of Blackbaud, Inc. for this in-depth webinar, which will focus on:
  • Adoption by the American Bar Association and other state bars of changes in the ethical and professional duties of attorneys to specifically contemplate the protection of client information and oversight of information systems;
  • Protection of organizational secrets, particularly in light of employee relations issues in a struggling economy and the related concerns about the protection of confidential information where contractual, physical and technical controls preventing leakage may be imperfect at best;
  • The European Data Protection Authorities' requirements for the creation of local public clouds; and
  • Technologies that make corporate information stores ever more accessible and which offer the promise of managing information risks and opportunities, but also risk opening "Pandora's Box" without clear and careful guidance from counsel.

This webinar is complimentary for all ITechLaw members. There is a $35.00 fee for non-members of ITechLaw.

We invite our members to discuss the most significant developments in technology affecting the law via our LinkedIn discussion group.

Moderator Don McAleese, Matheson Ormsby Prentice, Dublin and speakers Marco Consonni, Dewey & LeBoeuf, Milan; Gerrit Vandendriessche, ALTIUS, Brussels; and Alex Cohen, The Ovidian Group, LLC, Berkeley, explored the technology of search engines, and what happens when search results link users to information or sources that may be illegal, unlawful or prohibited.

The webinar focused on the emergence of claims based on the "natural" results of search engines, and the liability implications arising from measures that some organizations take to try to manipulate the relevance or prominence of resources so as to influence their indexation by the search engines (spamdexing).
