Righteousness & Integrity for Effective Ministry

Job 1:8 "Then the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil"

Job 29:15 - 17 "I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth".

Psalms 41:1 "Blessed is he who has regard for the weak, the Lord delivers him in times of troubles"

The above Scriptures describe the life of a man who made himself available to God in helping those in need. This servant of God, Job, was a man of integrity, blameless and upright, one who feared and honour God. He was a man sensitive to the needs of others and as a result, God acknowledged him. He was also respected by man; both young and old (Job 29:8). He was blessed by the Lord because He was faithful in following his God. Though he went through difficult times, he remained steadfast in his faith and walked with God faithfully. Despite the heartaches Job went through, God abundantly blessed him in the latter part of his life, living a life to see his great grandchildren to the FOURTH GENERATION. Job 42: 17 "And so he died, old and full of years". WHAT A LEGACY! The secret of living is to live the type of life that Job exemplified for us; living an upright life before our God and serving those who are in need. May our God, the God that Job served, the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, be blessed by all our service, as we continue that legacy of following Him and serving Him faithfully.

Our sincere appreciation to all of you, our friends, relatives and supporters for standing with us during the past weeks in the work we are doing here at SCA Eagle's Cove Ministry Centre.

Ministry Highlights:
Cookout 2012Cookout 2 2012TRADITIONAL COOKOUT AT THE COVE - During this past weekend about ten different families came to the Cove for traditional cookouts. There were lots of bannock, fish, bacon, fries, vegetables, Canadian geese and we all had our fill. Canoes were used on the lake, as well as the 14ft boat with a 9.9 mercury boat engine. The children had fun playing by the lake side. It was an enjoyable afternoon and good to be with friends. Everyone is looking forward to the next cookout.

WOMEN SUPPORT GROUP/COUNSELLING IN THE CITY - Bonita continues to lead a Women Support Group in the city on Tuesday evenings. It has been a special time of sharing heartaches, learning from the Bible, and encouraging one another.  In addition to having the women's support group, Bonita also counsels at Ishaawin Counselling Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please remember these women in your prayers and for wisdom for Bonita as she leads the group, as well as for her involvement with the Rising Above Ministry through their Counseling Centre here in Thunder Bay.

Youth event April 2012YOUTH EVENTS IN THE CITY - On Friday, May 11th, it will be our second youth night which comprises mostly of the junior youth from connections made with the families who have been attending family events. As mentioned on our last update, the program is being coordinated by a couple of our summer staff from last summer. The children are enjoying the program and the staff are doing an excellent job.

COURSES/SPEAKING - Bonita spent a week co-teaching a Counseling Course in northern Alberta, as well as spending a week at Briercrest Seminary, taking a course on Adolescent Development. It will be her last trip until the fall semester. Bonita has also been contacted to speak at a Youth Conference in Thunder Bay on May 26th.  Continue pray for her as she prepares.

CONTINUED VISITATION PROGRAM - A good part of my time in the city is spent visiting with people we have come to know during the last few weeks. There are many other families with their addresses and phone numbers in my book to be visited.  I enjoy spending time visiting and praying with them.  As I spend time with families, I'm burdened more to seek God's help and direction for other ways of assisting them. During the past weeks I was saddened to see the plight of some of our local people living in the city. At the moment we are praying for other ways of helping them with clothing, furniture and appliances. Please continue to pray for wisdom in these matters.

KO (6 COMMUNITIES) STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES YEAR END BBQ - This past Saturday I attended the BBQ as a farewell to the students before they go for their summer break. It was also an opportunity for the KOSSS to show appreciation to supporting organizations and leadership within the KO. It was good to connect with the students and other familiar faces within the tribe.

SUPPORT OF THUNDER BAY BUSINESSES - A Manager for the local CAT dealer in Thunder Bay came and picked up the backhoe that was used for some work on the staff housing and septic field for the lodge. Last week we got back our two boat motors (mercury 9.9) after being tuned up at a local business. We thank the Lord for both of the businesses and the help they rendered. Please continue to pray for such help from local businesses as we extend invitations to them in helping to make a difference in the lives of the people in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas.

Development:
STAFF RESIDENCE - As time is getting closer to when the framers will arrive to work on the staff housing in June, we are needing help in the next couple of weeks with having someone come and do the footings. Please remember us in this urgent prayer need for a cement person to come and do the footings of the building, as well as provision of funds to cover the projects.

LODGE - A local surveying company, under the direction of the architect from Toronto, were here recently to do some surveying and staking for the positions of the lodge and the septic field.

Funds - Donations have come in to begin the work on the staff residence, as well as for some of the preliminary work for the lodge, but the need is still great.  See Development Newsletter HERE and ways you can donate HERE
Operating Budget:
There is much to be excited about in regards to outreach and lives that are being changed, as well as the physical development of the Centre; however, the additional ministry and ongoing operations has been hard on our budget.  The SCA Eagle's Cove operating budget is presently lacking.  Please join us in praying that adequate funds would come in to cover the shortfall, especially as we enter into the summer season. Click HERE for ways to donate.
Summer Programs:
We are anticipating another great summer.  Preparations, arranging teams, training, lesson plans, etc, are constant reminders of the very busy season ahead.  The camp weeks, both on and off site, have teams committed.  We are still looking to confirm individuals that are willing to stay for the entire summer which helps to provide some continuity as the teams come and go.

SPONSORSHIP FOR THE SUMMER STAFF & CAMPERS - Since the majority of our campers do come from the low income housing units, availability of funds for these children to attend summer camp is always a difficult situation. Last year we were able to invite children who otherwise would have not been able to come.  Families have begun to inquire about available sponsorships, many of these are children who we have made connections with through our Play Days in the low income housing complexes. The children and parents are very appreciative of the gesture of kindness.  If you would like to sponsor a child, click HERE or feel free to contact us.

In addition, we would love to hire more summer staff this year.   We applied for the student grants but have not heard from them as of yet. We are also connected with a First Nations organization and hoping to have some of our First Nations young people joining us as our summer staff.

Conclusion:
As we wrap up some of the highlights during the past weeks, we are excited and delighted at what the Lord is doing in and through the Ministry Centre. The work is expanding rapidly, new applicants applying to be full-time staff, interest for volunteer workers increasing, and more people are being contacted and touched by the love of the Lord as the facilities are being used for the glory of God. Our deepest appreciation to all of you, our friends, relatives and supporters, for your continued support for our family and the work here at the Cove. May the Lord continue to use all of us, just like the servant of God, Job, as we make ourselves available to Him. The Lord's blessings be with you all.
