Land Clearing
SCA Eagle's Cove Updates
Greetings!
Note from the Director:

Acclaim our God!

Psalms 89:15-17 --"Blessed are those who have learned to ACCLAIM YOU, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long, they exalt in your righteousness. For you are their glory and strength, and by your favour you exalt our horn". (emphasis added)

The above text is part of the Psalmist acknowledging God. As a nation, a group of people worshiping God, they came to the conclusion that their God was and is with them. Part of acknowledging God is remembering what He has done in the past for them and remembering His promises for the future. In addition, they also learned to acknowledge God's character and the beauty of His creation around them, despite the difficult situations or cruel environment they went through at times on their way to the promise land. As Christians, if we are to be effective in life, we should learn to do the above, allowing time to be with the Lord and meditating on His character, instead of focusing on our problems. The LORD is bigger than any of our difficult situations but we need to ACCLAIM Him and dwell in His presence. He is a loving and merciful God who will never fail us when we put our trust in Him and follow Him faithfully.  May His Spirit guide in the coming days, weeks and months as we serve Him so that others will be brought to His Kingdom.

SCA Eagle's Cove Update
Physical Development:
Land Clearing
Land Clearing
Lot for Staff Housing: A group of 7 people from Port Rowan, ON (Lake Erie) joined by an SCA Board Member and friend from St Catherine's, ON, came to clear the land for the next staff house. The work involved using a chainsaw, burning brushes, and operating machines.  A rock truck and trackhoe were hired to assist from a local company. In addition, with the help of a Christian manager, a backhoe was also used to level and prepare the lot.

High Level YouthPreparations for Septic for Future Lodge: In addition to working on the site for staff housing, work was also done in burying a low area behind the site for the lodge. A youth group from a church in High Level, Alberta arrived on April 1st to help us with the cleaning. The Lord blessed the work and much was accomplished. We witnessed many prayers being answered.  One wonderful example of God's provision was the gravel located on the property; the lot for the house had gravel rather than the anticipated bedrock.  Additionally there was another location on the property where good quality gravel was located saving us thousands of dollars on this and future projects.

Firewood
Piling Firewood and Cleaning/Organizing:
Firewood from the cleared area was split and stacked by the campfire site in anticipation for the many campfires over the coming summer months.  Also many areas were cleaned and organized including the shop and paintball shed.

Paintball Field:
The paintball field was another location that was tackled. The High Level, AB Youth Group, the staff and students from the local Native High School (DFC), and a local friend, all worked together on the field.  Work included clearing brush and preparing the markers for upcoming games.
Kitchen Crew
Kitchen Work: While diligent volunteers worked at the  numerous sites around the centre, team members also put in long tiring hours preparing meals.  They did a great job keeping everyone well fed. Some meals and groceries were donated from Port Rowan to assist in the important task - Thank you also to all who sent food.

Lodge:
With the Lodgehelp of the Christian architect from Toronto, the Building Committee and the Capital Campaign Committee, consultation work continues with the main lodge, staff house and infrastructure. We are so thankful for each one of these individuals who have shown such commitment to the development of the Cove. Click HERE to read more in our Building Community Newsletter.

Ministry Development:

DFC Students & High Level YouthDFC High School Outing:
After a couple hours of clearing brushes, the students, together with the youth from Alberta, enjoyed some paintballing and canoeing on the lake (by those willing to ventured out).  The event ended with a hotdog roast.  It was great to see the students intermingling, chatting, and playing volleyball together throughout the evening.

PlaydaysPlay Days in the City (April 4-6): With the assistance of the youth group from Alberta, three Playdays were hosted in three different housing complexes in Thunder Bay. These were the first Playdays of the year and the turnout was very good in spite of the cool weather. Many connections were made.  It was just simply wonderful to see the kids, some former campers of SCA Eagle's Cove, as well as connecting again with familiar faces of many families.

Family Event in the City (April 7):
Perhaps one of the biggest highlight of the week was hosting the Family Event at the Redwood Opportunity Centre (Op) where "SCA EAGLE'S COVE- in the City" is located. The events began at 3PM with children's game, re-ball for older kids, and youths and adults had fun in the inflatable dome (60' x 30'). The event concluded with a feast in the basement of the Op.  Approximately 200 people were out. Those who attended the event were very appreciative and it was just a real great occasion as we remembered the sacrifice the Lord gave at the Cross of Calvary on Easter weekend.
Family Event April 2012

Food Bank:
On Thursday afternoon from 1-3PM time was spent at the Redwood Opportunity Centre Food Bank, making connections with families and individuals. Many contacts have been made and home visits have already begun. A number of families have indicated their desire to join us at the next family event at the Cove.

Visitation: Over the past weeks, I (Bera) took time to visit some of our elders from northern communities now living in the city for medical reasons; at times, taking bread and vegetables to them from the Food Bank. Please remember these elders in your prayers; those who are in homes or hospitals, adjusting to life a long way from their communities. Once the lodge is built, we hope to have some of these elders come to the Cove for a weekend by the campfire, having bannock, coffee and tea by the lakeside; something they love and are used to doing in their camp-outs in their northern communities.

It has been my prayers for some time now to visit some of the homes on neighbouring lakes and lately I was able to visit three homes.  It was great meeting the different people and they expressed appreciation of me coming to their homes. Some of these people we only met during vehicle accidents with them or in front of their home. It was as if the Lord is reminding us to go and see them. We hope to invite them for events at the Cove. One man mentioned that I was the first neighbour to come and visit them. He wanted to know more about what we are doing so I took the opportunity to explain.

Pastoral Prayer Times: Whenever possible, I try to attend prayer times with a group of pastors from 10:30AM till noon. This is a lifeline for me as we intercede on behalf of our city and surrounding areas, as well as a time of encouragement with one another in light of Hebrews 10:25.

Bonita's Counseling Work & School: Apart from her busy work and study at the seminary, her Tuesdays and Thursdays are spent at the counselling office at Rising  Above Ministry (Ishaawin Counseling Centre). The above listed events keep her very busy, not to mention all the other operational aspects of the ministry at the Cove. She would value your prayers in regards to her schooling as she will be heading to Briercrest soon for another week of studies.  The half way mark of acquiring her masters in Marriage and Family Therapy was reached last month.

Women Support Group: After much prayer and a couple attempts, a Support Group finally began. It was the ladies that have been attending the family events who brought forward the idea to start one. Some of these women have been a great help in organizing events and it has been so encouraging to see growth in them as they step out more. Please remember each of them in your prayers, as well as Bonita as she seeks to be a source of encouragement to them, teaching them more about the Lord.

Conclusion:

As mentioned on our last SCA Eagle's Cove Update, considering the pressing needs of providing proper and adequate facilities to enable us to better serve the people in our northern communities, we will need all the prayers and support we can get! The work is progressing really well and lives are being touched by the love of the Lord through the Centre. Please do not hesitate to contact us should the Lord direct you to give us a hand in touching lives for eternity. Your financial and prayer contribution are deeply appreciated. Without such help we would not have been able to accomplished what has been achieved so far.

Many thanks to all of you who have stood behind us over the years as we work together in partnership in the expansion of the Lord's work at SCA Eagle's Cove, as well as in other areas the Lord has allowed us to serve in the past. May He, by His Spirit, guide us into the future as we make our lives available in making a difference in the lives of others. The Lord's blessings be with you all.
