Become a Legacy Donor today!

The Legacy for the Children Society provides long-term support for Children's Beach House (CBH).  Growth of the CBH endowment funds is the best way to sustain our high quality programs. Legacy gifts continue to support Ms. Lydia's vision, to help children with special needs reach their highest potential as functioning members of their families and communities.  By donating a gift of $10,000 or more to a CBH endowment fund or by including CBH in your estate plan, you will be recognized as a member of our Legacy for the Children Society. Gifts to the endowment funds may be paid over two or three years.

As we approach our 75th Anniversary, individuals who make gifts prior to December, 2012, will be included in the Founder's Circle of the Legacy for the Children Society.

We hope you will contact us at 302.655.4288 for further information.  Thank you for your continued support.

ISSUE 23                                                    JULY 2012

A Note from the Director

Director Pic

CBH hosts 8 weeks of summer camps and It is hard to believe we are already into our sixth week.  Our Lewes facility is alive with activity and laughter during the summer months and it makes time fly!  It has been great to spend time with the children and it is never a dull moment when they are around.  We recently had a guest join us for lunch and she had the pleasure if sitting with a child she had referred to our program when he was in the first gradeJason, now going into the 7th grade talked at length about his experience at CBH.  It was wonderful to watch them conversing and laughing.  It was very moving when she was about to depart, Jason hugged her and thanked her for giving him this opportunity.  Many of our youth, once shy little individuals, are now developing into responsible, independent, and mature young adults.

This maturity is demonstrated in many instances.  One great example is with our Middlers who are eagerly organizing their community service project; Alex's Lemonade Stand, scheduled for July 25, and July 26.  The group is well aware of the generous support the community provides our organization and they take great delight in reaching out to other children who contend with serious health issues.  They truly understand and appreciate both sides of community service.

We have had so many great success stories with our children ages 7 - 18, imagine what type of impact we could make we if were involved with a child as early as preschool?  We are thrilled with what is on the horizon for CBH and we hope you'll join in supporting our next venture!

CBH ANNOUNCES $1,000,000 CHALLENGE GRANT

Randall and Peggy Rollins Randall and Peggy Rollins have challenged CBH by making a pledge to match every dollar raised for a new endowment.  The new MA-RAN endowment will support the proposed Child Development Center.  "In honor of the tremendous generostiy of the Rollins family, the board of trustees has agreed to name the center The Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center," says board chair, Martha Tschantz.  "The opportunity this challenge grant provides is nothing short of a miracle.  The task of raising money in our current economic environment is daunting at best, but Mr. and Mrs. Rollins' gift gives us great leverage to create excitement for a permanent program to serve some of Sussex' County's most vulnerable children."

This endowment will ensure sustainable programs to serve preschool aged children with special needs.  The center will serve approximately 16 three- year-olds in the first year and as they move to a four-year-old program the following year, 16 more three-year-olds will be added.  The school is being built and licensed for a capacity of 60.  The plan is to open the center in September 2013.

Lydia Chichester duPont founded CBH in 1936 as a place where she could bring children with orthopedic challenges to experience the same healing qualities she herself had discovered on Lewes Beach.  Today, the organization serves children with communitcative disabilites in unique, research-based programs in the Youth Development Program (YDP).  The new preschool will allow CBH to identify children with communitcative disabilities earlier and expand services from ages 3 through 18.
