Race Updates

We want Island Girl to be a great race experience that becomes an annual event on your race calendar. Island Girl was created to be a fun, scenic, women's only event with a tropical twist. Over the years Island Girls have come out and raced in their grass skirts and have helped us celebrate the 'island way of life'. Thank you! Here are a few ways we are making Island Girl even better for you...

This year Sportstats will be timing our races and your race bib will have the timing chip attached to it. This means no more ankle chips or line ups to get them on race morning.

Race kit pick up will take place inside the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel which is just steps away from the ferry docks. Race kit pick up hours are from 2pm-6pm on Friday, Sept 21st and 10am-2pm on Saturday, Sept 22nd. Why not make it a girls weekend and book a room at the Westin? They are offering great rates for Island Girls for race weekend. Look for the link on our website to book your accommodations.

The Runners Shop, located at 180 Bloor Street West, is still accepting in-person registrations. Save the online processing fee and grab a new pair of runners!

New for 5K participants - all finishers will receive a fun Island Girl medal.

Thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Adult Essentials, Island Girls will get to sample the best tasting gummy vitamins made just for adults. Completely nut, gluten and dairy free - you won't forget to take them.

Cancer in the Family: What You Need to Know is an informative and practical resource for anyone concerned about their risk of developing breast cancer. Developed by a team of medical experts, the booklet explains the breast cancer risk associated with a family history of the disease and inherited genetic factors.It explains who is at risk of developing hereditary breast cancer and what to do if you are concerned about your hereditary risk.

The booklet also describes what steps you can take to reduce your chance of developing breast cancer, regardless of your level of risk, and how breast cancer can be detected early if it does occur.

Upon registration in any of the Island Girl races you will have an opportunity to add a donation to your entry fee. We have also created a printable PLEDGE form to assist you in collecting pledges. Donations can be brought to the race or race kit pick up.

A Busy Year Ahead

Island Girl 2012 in September brings to a close a very busy race season for us. We are the Series Founders and Directors of the SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series organizing eight kids triathlon races, including two in BC this summer. Last year over 3800 kids crossed the finish line with huge smiles! The first two races in the TRi KiDS Series have already sold out but there are plenty of spots in the other Ontario races.

Our season starts with the Kids Tri 4 Kids Event, a kids triathlon race in London, Ontario on June 10th. Registration is open and 3-13 year olds are welcome. $12 from each entry fee goes directly to the Childreach organization in London, ON.

We are also finalizing details on a new destination adult triathlon in the Turks and Caicos Islands scheduled for February 2013. Tri Turks and Caicos will include an Olympic and Sprint distance race and possibly a running event. You will fall in love with the beauty of Turks and Caicos - and it's only a 3 hour flight from Toronto. Stay tuned for more details.
