AmideBio Closes $.5M+ Round |  On May 10, 2011 AmideBio, LLC, which is focused on the production and commercialization of  technically-challenging peptides for the R&D, clinical and therapeutic marketplaces, announced that it has closed a $575,000 preferred equity financing round. The company will use this capital to continue optimization of multiple peptide products utilizing AmideBio's innovative chemical and recombinant hybrid manufacturing technology.  Deming Center advisory board member Misha Plam and Michael Stowell, Ph.D. founded AmideBio with an exclusive license to technology invented at the University of Colorado at Boulder.


Orbotix Raises $5M | Orbotix Inc, headed by Deming advisory board member Paul Berberian, raised $5 million in a Series B funding round in April, and plans to use it to launch its product Sphero, a spherical robot remotely controlled with Apple or 'Droid smartphones in time for the 2011 holiday season. The Boulder-based startup's investment comes from Boulder's own Foundry Group, and Highway 12 Ventures, a venture capital firm based in Boise.

Board Members on the Move | Frank Day, president of Concept Restaurants Inc. and chairman of Craft Works Restaurant Group Inc., received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Boulder Chamber's 106th Annual Dinner on Thursday, April 21.

Leeds Assistant Professor Jeff York, along with Leeds PhD graduate Desiree Pacheco, presented The Co-evolution of Industries, Social Movements, and Institutions: The Case for Wind Power at the 3rd annual Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability (ARCS) at Wharton May 9-11. York will also present at the Academy of Management's Best Paper Preceedings at the annual meeting in August. 

   

 

Alumni on the Move

 

You could say that Leeds 2010 grad Rachel Cohen is bottling her passion for entrepreneurship. What she's also doing is keeping glass out of landfills and making the world a more beautiful place. Read about her venture, The BottleHood, in the Daily Camera.   

 

Leeds alumnus and Deming advisory board member Barney Feinblum re-launched the iconic Alfalfa's Market with partner and fellow Deming advisory board member Mark Retzloff on Earth Day, April 22. The store is located at 1651 Broadway in Boulder.  

 

Leeds alumnus and board of directors member Marley Hodgson opened a new Mad Greens location at 2341 Clover Basin Drive in Longmont.
