LOKALITE.com Readies for Launch | Lokalite.com, a Boulder-based Internet company dedicated to redefining the way college students discover and interact with their local communities, announced the launch of its beta web site. Lokalite.com intends to celebrate a hard launch on March 28, 2011.

Lokalite provides a free platform for business and local organizations to post their events and promote their happenings.  "We've put our hearts and souls into this and we're excited to see how the students and Boulder community receive us," stated Will Powers, co-founder of Lokalite.  The young venture is headed by recent CU alumni and current students including:  Graham Christy, Lauren Costantini, Will Powers, Zach Pramer, and Mark Shenfield.  

 

Dr. William Freytag, Managing Director of Freytag Holdings, LLC and Deming Center board of advisors member says, "This is a special group of young entrepreneurs.  They have a powerful idea for a business, boundless passion and energy, and an intense desire to make a difference in the lives of college students."  Freytag Holdings, LLC invested in the Boulder start-up November 21, 2010. 

Recognitions and Awards

Board Members on the Move | Misha Plam recently received the Tibbetts Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for his distinguished record of entrepreneurship and innovation and for his contributions in promoting the SBA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program in the U.S. and abroad, especially in Russia and China. Leeds MBAs Invited to Yale for Competition Finals

On March 25, Leeds School MBA students Jessica Dauchy and Dan Last will present the UrbanEx Charter School business plan at the Yale Education Leadership Conference finals.  

 

UrbanEx is a charter middle school filling the needs of disadvantaged families in Northwest Denver, utilizing cutting-edge education models, and focusing on sustainability by using a fiscally responsible model as well as operating in a green, energy-efficient facility. 

 

 

Leeds MBA Team Takes New Venture Challenge Prize  

Congratulations to Leeds School MBA students Mark Lewis, Taj  Capozzola, Josh Pranckun, J Miller, and Susanne Pletcher for presenting their business plan for Green Truck, and  winning the grand prize at the 3rd annual CU New Venture Challenge Championships.   

 

The New Venture Challenge is a business plan competition open to all CU-Boulder students; the competition received a record-breaking number of entries this year.   

 

Green Truck produces and delivers a premium organic live potting soil that contains an optimal population of microbes.

Napkin Labs Cleans Up  

Leeds alumnus Warren Ng co-founded online market research startup Napkin Labs Inc., which recently raised $1.1 million from an angel investor to grow the company.

 

The Boulder-based company creates collaboration software for businesses and communities. A company of fewer than 10 employees,  company headquarters recently moved to an office in downtown Boulder.
