February 25 | Productive Collisions--the Deming Center's flagship discussion luncheon series--reconvenes to focus the spotlight on the outdoor industry. Panelists include Kim Coupounas of GoLite, Allison Danforth of Ouray Sportswear, Clark Gundlach of Burton Snowboards, and Robert Yturri of Obermeyer. March 9 | Entrepreneurship Under the Microscope-- a celebration luncheon in honor of the advances made in entrepreneurship and commercialization efforts around the CU campus and beyond. This annual event, co-hosted by the Deming Center and CU-Boulder's Technology Transfer Office during the culmination of the CU New Venture Challenge finals, features open networking, lunch, and talks from industry's movers and change-makers. Speakers include Amy Cosper--editor in chief, Entrepreneur Magazine; Chas Eggert--CEO, Opx Biotechnologies;  Larry Gold--Founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO, SomaLogic; Stein Sture--Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and  Trent Yang--Director of Entrepreneurship and Business Development, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI). Making Homegrown History  | On January 10, 2011 the Deming Center Venture Fund closed on its first-ever investment in mobile marketing firm, SpyderLynk. This investment marked the culmination of a full semester of work by the Deming Venture Fund team and was made with helpful guidance from its professional and faculty boards. At the request of a venture capital fund and multiple angel investors, members of the fund's team spearheaded the drafting and negotiation of the syndicates' term sheet and were instrumental in the deal closing. Recognitions and Awards

Board Members on the Move | Misha Plam and Jim Linfield were recently honored, along with six CU faculty researchers and two companies founded on CU research at the University of Colorado's Technology Transfer Office annual awards banquet. Full story at Boulder County Business Report.

 

Dan Caruso's telecom provider, Zayo Group, announced a 2nd fiscal quarter gross profit of $57.2M on revenues of $77.9M. Revenues grew, via merger and acquisitions and network expansion, by 54% annually, with annual revenues of $311.5M. Full story at Techrockies.

Entrepreneurship Research Needs You 

Faculty and doctoral students are conducting a study to learn how entrepreneurs discover and create economic and social opportunities.

Look for  an invitation to complete a brief online questionnaire. Results will be presented at the Babson Entrepreneurship Research Conference, the premier academic entrepreneurship conference, and shared with participants.  Please help us and the Leeds School advance the study and practice of entrepreneurship by sharing your time and knowledge.  

 

 

The Leeds Outdoor Industry Club is gearing up for another great year.  Previous events and panels have featured folks from Smartwool, Pearl Izumi, 303Cycling, Bikes Belong, Backpacker, IMBA, Wagner Custom Skis, as well as local marketing firms  like Sterling-Rice, Egg Strategy and Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Alumni on the Move

Leeds alumnus Tim Falls (MBA '10) launched Boulder Beta, a  new event series for the Boulder/Denver
 entrepreneurial community.  The first event  took place Feb 15, 6-9 pm and was a huge hit. Learn more  about the series or register to attend a forthcoming event.
