Naturally Boulder 2010 Spring Educational Series. Four classes beginning April 16 are designed to be a structured and in-depth look at the natural and organic industry:  operations, marketing, finance, legal and human resources. The classes are ideal for early stage or mid-level entrepreneurs and will be taught by industry experts and professors from CU Boulder's Leeds School of Business. Startup Weekend April 16-18 is a 54-hour startup event that happens nationally for individuals and teams with an idea to launch. The organizers are seeking Boulder/Denver business community members and general attendees for this year's event, hosted at the Leeds School of Business. News and Noteworthy

Nick Sowden '07 Management, will receive the Kalpana Chawla Outstanding Recent Graduate award presented by the University of Colorado Boulder Alumni Association on May 5. Nick is in Kenya working with ToughStuff that provides inexpensive solar products to low income families in developing countries which save money, improve lives and protect the environment.

 

Sarah Schupp '04 Management, founder and chief executive of University Parent, recently created the idea of Campus Dough. The Campus Dough debit card will be available nationwide to all university students to help "improve their money-management skills, earn rewards from merchants and raise funds for their school. 

The Deming Center Venture Fund (DCVF) is setup to promote and foster entrepreneurship and early-stage investing throughout the CU and Front Range communities. The fund attracts and develops Leeds MBA and other CU graduate students through an applied venture capital investment experience. It also provides a context of interaction for alumni, faculty, industry professionals and local entrepreneurs creating a unique student experience. The Fund will generally participate in the seed stage rounds of investing with capital investments ranging from $10,000-$50,000. The fund is supervised by faculty from the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship as well as an advisory board of venture capital professionals (to be announced.)To be considered for investment or learn more, please email your business plan and/or an executive summary to deals@cudcvf.org  
 
Congratulations to Leeds MBA VCIC team Michael Euperio, Josh Whitney, Mike Weinheimer, Rob Delwo, and Josh Winer who won the Entrepreneurs' Choice award at the 2010 International Venture Capital Investment Competition at the Universisty of North Carolina Chapel Hill.  First place was the University of Chicago, followed by Oxford and UNC. Other finalists teams incuded Brigham Young, Dartmouth, Columbia, Georgetown, and National University of Singapore.
