It's Time
To Get Off The Hamster Wheel!
Just being in motion will never get you to your Big. To do that, you need to be sure you're doing the right things, in the right order, for the right reasons.
This seven-step system clarifies the activities that are mission-critical to your success. It then walks you through a process for creating step-by-step action plans to implement those key activities.
The result? You get off the hamster wheel of motion-without-progress and get on a more direct route to more clients and more money.
Forget about being busy; start getting focused by downloading your no-charge PDF version of the Take Action Now System (tm) today. |

Greetings!
I feel so special. No matter how long it takes me to learn a particular lesson, the Universe will keep sending me opportunities until I do learn it. Lucky, lucky me.
We're doing some major cosmetic work on our house, and it's truly amazing how many things we just lived with, rather than dealing with them as they arose: the wall that got dinged up when the dog was thrashing around, trying to escape her kennel; the rug the dog partially ate; the boards of the wooden kitchen floor that got warped when water leaked out the dogs' mouths every time they took a drink...
Since we weren't willing to get rid of the dogs, we just accepted that "these things happen." While that's true, what's not true is that our only choice was to live with the dog-inflicted damage. Now that we're spiffing up the house, we're faced with damage control, rather than simple maintenance.
How often do we as entrepreneurs do the same in our businesses? We let voice-mail or e-mail or simple filing pile up, and before we know it, our eyes are bulging because we're in such a state of overwhelming damage control. All too often, this results in not just major stress, but also lost or delayed revenues (we don't get a bid in on time, we're late sending out invoices for payment, we miss an important deadline).
If you realize you have a tendency to fall into "I'll deal with it later" mode, use the following tools to stay on top of your business and your life.

Tip of the Week
Chip away every day.
This is a great practice to follow any time. If you take the right steps
every day to build your business, i.e., you're diligent about "maintenance," it's inevitable that you'll eventually reach your goal.
Chipping away is even more important when/if you find yourself in damage-control mode, because it will move you from overwhelmed paralysis to purposeful action.

A Really Good Resource
Staying (or getting) on top of your business activities is as much a matter of mindset as activity management. A mundane little tool that addresses both these components is a simple kitchen timer.
I find that, if I set a timer for just 30 minutes (and sometimes even less), it helps me maintain a laser focus on whatever arduous task I'm working on. I figure I can do damn near anything for 15 to 30 minutes - and I can. It even becomes a bit of a game for me: Just how much can I plow through before the timer goes off? Try it for yourself.

How's This for Success?
You'll be amazed and delighted by the power of staying on top of activities. Just ask Cari Spears of Shirtwerks and Promotionals.
Cari realizes that, contrary to the situation faced by many entrepreneurs, going through e-mails frequently is a crucial business activity
for her: Long-standing customers often use e-mail to place new orders with her, and prospects often use it to ask for bids. If she didn't stay on top of her inbox, she'd actually be delaying - if not losing - revenues. When she is on top of it, her stress goes down and her income goes up.

Thanks to my friend Flickr.
Here are this week's heroes who graciously allowed me to use their images, posted in the Creative Commons area of Flickr, in this issue of Stepping Into Big:

Kitchen timers, closed doors, the best intentions in the world...No matter how many tools you use, sometimes it's still a struggle to figure out how to do the right things in the right order to grow your business.
Maybe I can help. My specialty is providing a flexibly structured approach to activity management that enables you to act with clarity and confidence. If that sounds like something that could keep your head from exploding, call or e-mail me to set up a let's-see-what-we-see, get-acquainted call.
