After announcing in our last Newsletter that we were looking for a Family to sponsor for the upcoming Holidays...many tearful reminders of how hard life is for some (just around the corner) have been pouring in...

We did not anticipate, when we solicited all of your help, to find 'our' family in need - how very hard it was going to be to read and listen to the stories and then choose the most deserving Family.  It is impossible - how can you weigh families all on the brink of losing their homes, unable to purchase new clothing, living hungry...against each other?

Well we had to narrow the list down and even in doing that we ended up taking on 2 families in the end.  It is just what we felt we needed to do.  Below in this letter I have included some information about the 2 families for you to read.  Forgive my prose as I felt it more important to get this information OUT THERE and less to embellish it for an interesting read.

If there is anything you can do to help support these Grandmothers, Mothers and their children it would be greatly appreciated. Bringing in any donations to our store as soon as possible (preferably this week in time for Thanksgiving but if not...before Christmas) would be so very appreciated.  I have included some details about them and some 'wishes' they have.  Quilts & Sew Forth will be donating everything they have requested to feed their families a 'REAL' Holiday meal and gift cards for their various needs.

These are good families - who are not abusing the system that at times seems to really be working against them. We can guarantee that your donations will reach our promised families and that they will be the ones to benefit from them.

If you would prefer to support a family in need but rather do it on your own - please let us know if you need some direction.  I am sure we will always know of someone who we just couldn't afford to take on ourselves (click below).

I hope to set up a page on the Website that I can constantly update as needs are brought to our attention - for everyone to look at when trying to think of how best they can help out!  This will either be a link through the 'NEWS' section or will appear as a Banner Ad on the Homepage. You can also email us at any time to see the status of the list.

Here are their stories and needs........

Sincerely & with hope,

A Grandmother's Tale

Homeless

Most of us know what it is like to start a family...build a life with that family...watch it grow only to have to let it go - hoping and PRAYING that everything will be as it was under your watchful eye...

That is what our special Grandmother did.  She raised a daughter, did everything right while hiding the truth of her own personal torment.  Abused by her husband she stayed strong enough to keep the family together only to be left...to fall apart on her own...years later.

Working hard to make ends meet and suffering from severe depression she is confronted everyday by the hardships that have befallen her.  A house in disrepair, barely enough social security to pay the bills - leaving little for food and medical deductibles - she has made it through.  Waking up each  morning - trying to greet the day with a  smile instead of tears...she was making it work until...

The cycle of abuse continued and her daughter and her babies had to run for their safety one night and back into her arms...her home.  She took them in without question never even stopping to ask - how am I going to make this work.

Instead she worked harder...and longer and eventually to the point where she didn't even dare question the horrible environment that she was put into with her job - for fear of losing it...losing her lifeline.  So she continued to drive a truck for a Car Company...without heat in it - through the Winter until trajedy struck.  So frozen from the cold she collided head on into another truck...luckily everyone was alive but the wounds were deep. The worst is that after recovering from most of the trauma after undergoing brain surgery - she was informed that she was going to have to lose her leg due to the frost bite that had set into it - which caused the accident in the first place.

Unable to work, living as an amputee with more family than she can afford to support but the Love for her Daughter and her 7 year old Grandaughter and 3 year old Grandson guides her forward. However, the situation is on the brink of disaster now.  Family and Friends have been stealing her food stamps and donated items and she literally cannot chase after them to stop the abuse.

Quilts & Sew Forth has been working with her to create a list of items that would help them prepare for the Holiday's and stop some of the 'bleeding' that is occuring.  We will be delivering a feast of food and necessities to her home on Monday (November 23) in time for Thanksgiving.  If anyone can help and bring in any donations by the end of our business day on Saturday (5PM) we would greatly appreciate it.  If this is too short of a notice - we will be collecting donations indefinetely for her so stop in anytime.

AN EXPECTING MOTHER'S ORDEAL
Baby Boy

Living a tough but manageable life this single Mother has a 17 year old daughter and a 5 year old son.   Life hasn't always been upside down but even humble situations are tested.  For this Mother severe headaches and various other pains were diagnosed several years ago as brain cancer.

After a tortuous fight through Chemo and several brain surgeries she pulled through and was in remission.  Told by all her doctors to never expect any future pregnancies she was saddened but comforted by the 2 wonderful children she already had.

Life was even harder now but the family stuck together and through Love and support were hanging on...barely...but enough. Until one day when she began to feel quite ill again.  Her girlfriends...joking around that she was pregnant never knew that hours later they would be standing by her side as she looked down, in shock, at 14 positive home pregnancy tests.  This truly was a miracle baby.  She was, even though her life was not perfect, going to welcome this baby with an open heart!

However...this family would also be tested! Since the pain she was experiencing was not going away she decided not to take any chances and made an appointment with her oncologist.  Weeks later she sat staring out the window as she held her belly tight.  The Cancer had returned and spread - it was now not only in her brain but in her esophogus and her stomach.  "What am I supposed to do...what am I supposed to learn - tell me please" she shouted out as the tears fell.

The next morning - her head held high - she began to fight.  A weak fight due to the pregnancy - as she could no longer be agressive with her treatments. She drives 52 miles back and forth to Cleveland for blood taking and treatments everyday. She is terminal and has accepted that.  She works everyday to confront that each day is another day lived...another day closer to delivering baby Angelo on December 22nd, 2009...another day that she has to plan for who will take care of her children.  For now she just wants to live...and celebrate each day...each Holiday...the upcoming birth.

Means are very limited but this Mother still manages to do it right.  She takes what little social security she has and pays EVERYTHING at the beginning of the month - nothing is in arrears but there is very little in the fridge...few items in the closet and virtually no toys under the beds. She also has absolutely NOTHING for the baby - no crib, no clothes...nothing

So Quilts & Sew Forth has decided to take care of her and her kids.  We again will be supplying the Turkey and all of the fixin's for the Thanksgiving feast next week.  We will be donated some gift cards too - to help with various needs the family has. If anyone can help and bring in any donations by the end of our business day on Saturday (5PM) we would greatly appreciate it.  If this is too short of a notice - we will be collecting donations indefinetely for her so stop in anytime.
