If you think you are ready to become a child sponsor then here are two young boys who need your help.

Wilberson Desirin - 4yrs - Haiti

Wilberson, along with his brother and his sister, came to the orphanage when his father could no longer care for for his family, following the death of his wife.

At school Wilberson has shown he is intelligent.  He is friendly, outgoing and likes playing with the other children although big brother Wilson is a favourite playmate of his.

Emil Amanci,  12yrs, Romania

Emil has 3 brothers and 1 sister and they live with their parents in a tiny two room house in Negresti.

At school he gets good grades particularly in the subjects he enjoys, Romanian and Mathematics.  He also enjoys playing sport, especially football!

Help these children, and others like them, by joining our child sponsorship scheme and unlocking their potential.

Back to School!
As 2012 marches ever forward, so we reach another September which means many of you will be busy buying stationary and uniforms, getting your children ready to start a new school year.  Some of you may know or have children who are just starting school, leaving Primary for Secondary or maybe even beginning Higher Education.  This is a time to reflect (and maybe even shed a tear) about how quickly they grow up as they get ever closer to achieving their dreams.

We tend to take for granted that our children have access to free, good quality, education up until the age of 16.  Even after that University is not an unachievable dream for most your people.  The children that we work with in Romania, Haiti and Nepal aren't so lucky and are unable to access education at any age, either because they can't afford the school fees, or they are unable to buy the uniforms, books and tools that are needed.

This really is where Child Sponsorship can change lives.  Take young Roshan in Nepal for example, when his child sponsorship began it enabled him to attend school where he worked hard and achieved good grades.  This enabled him to win a scholarship to further education and now he will be attending college to study Aeronautical engineering.  After this he dreams of going to USA to train to become a pilot, and having gotten this far we don't doubt that he will fulfil his dream!

Exciting news!
It may seem rather early to be mentioning Christmas, but we have some really exciting news.  Renowned local, and international, artist Mark Benham has agreed to use his amazing talents to create the 2012 People against Poverty Christmas cards!

If you aren't familiar with Mark's work then you have an opportunity through the prestigious Bath Prize.  He will be entering two pieces entitled, Great Pultney and View of Bath from North Road.

We will be taking orders for packs of Christmas cards (four designs) soon, and hope to be able to provide you with a sneak preview of the designs very shortly!
Summer trip to Nepal
It is officially the wettest summer in 100 years!  Bill and I thought we'd seen enough rain when we headed off to Nepal, but we soon learnt that a British summer has nothing on the rainy season!

Visiting our projects always brings mixed emotions. The joy of visiting old friends and making new ones is offset by the horror of the conditions they find themselves living in.  Nepal was no different on either count.

What was very exciting was the impact the child sponsorship programme is clearly having.   What also became clear was how the model used in Romania, the Way of Joy child programme, would work so well in Nepal providing additional support where it is needed most.  As a result we have decided to focus on setting up a small scale trial in the Khatmandu area.  Six children would have access, once a week, to a hot meal in a community atmosphere, playtime with toys and social education.  Starting small would enable Krishna, our project leader, and his wife to understand what the issues are and what the solutions need to be. Once they are up and running successfully then the aim would be to expand across all the areas the project covers.

As always it will be the generosity of our supporters that makes this possible.  If you feel you want to help, or would just like to hear more about my trip to Nepal please contact us at the office.  We will be delighted to hear from you.
