BBC's Redesigned Website Launches in November In addition to having a new tournament schedule for 2010, the Bahamas Billfish Championship will launch a newly designed website in early November. Over the past six months we have had a great deal of input from BBC anglers and crew with suggestions for improvements to the BBC website. Additionally, since the BBC website was designed to include real-time scoring, a lot of dynamic changes have taken place in website design and functionality. The information packed website is easy to navigate with everything from details regarding tournament registration to links for iMap™ Global Weather. Of course there will be the information that is vital to your planning and enjoyment of the upcoming 2010 BBC season such as detailed contact/reservation information for host BBC resorts as well as updated Bahamian Immigration and Customs forms. There is a convenient link to The Teaser e-newsletter and all of the BBC e-Updates. More ...

Where Do We Learn More?
By Capt. Skip Smith
Where do the best captains, mates and anglers learn to get better? When you catch your first sail, marlin or even a dolphin, who told you what to do? Hold the tip up; drop back; wind the bait away? Maybe it was a friend you used to fish with or it was the mate or you might have watched too much of those old Curt Gowdy films. How about the captain - The mate? From whom did they learn? The captain, most likely, learned from another captain when he was a deckhand. The deckhand learned from his friends and now is learning from the captain. And now who can they learn from? Some captains and anglers want to troll all small lures and some will mix them. Most boats fish small lures long and bigger lures closer to the boat. Who really knows if any of this really makes a difference. Some captains and crew come from the Northeast where they fish mostly bait. They come to the Bahamas and feed the barracudas, but they still catch billfish. That's where you need someone good with the rod and reel. We all read Marlin and try to pick up any tips or tricks. Most of the time, we want to know which brand of lures, the color and the hook style. It's not like the blue marlin have a big school of softheads or Black Bart lures all balled up out there. But we want to believe that some lures have their moments and may be hot for one tournament or even a season.

Faster, Easier Entry into the U.S.
Global Entry was developed to expedite international air travel by providing an alternative passport control process for pre-approved travelers - which means you don't have to wait in line anymore. Interested individuals apply online, are pre-screened for eligibility and are interviewed in person by a CBP officer. Once accepted into the program, participants can use self-serve kiosks (located in the U.S. Arrivals area of designated airports) that confirm biometric information (e.g., fingerprints) and read their machine-readable passports. Who Qualifies? Only U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S. and citizens of certain other countries are eligible to participate in the Global Entry program.

Dolphinfish Research Newsletter
Two reports of tagged dolphinfish being recovered off New York were received since the last newsletter. This brings the number of dolphin reported recaptured this year off New York to three and the total for the year to 48 fish. With a little over 1,000 fish tagged in 2009, the record-setting recovery rate of 4.6 percent is being maintained. A total of 19 dolphin tagged in either the Bahamas, South Florida, or South Carolina have been reported recovered in offshore waters from Virginia to Massachusetts since the inception of this study. The first tag recovery of this period had its start in Bahamian waters off Bimini during June. The crew of Richard DeLizza's boat, Rock Boat, took breaks each day from competing in a tournament in which they were entered to tag dolphin for science. They wound up tagging 80 fish during the tournament which is a strong statement of their dedication to conservation. The Bimini fish was recovered on September 6, 108 miles offshore of Montauk, New York, in the western waters of the Atlantis Canyon. It was reported recaptured by Ron Taurick, a crew member on the sports fishing vessel Maluca.
