Registrations Running Ahead of Last Year
Despite the global economic downturn, registrations for teams fishing the 2009 BBC are running ahead of last year. Over thirty teams have registered to fish the 2009 Series. There are many familiar names from past years as well as several newcomers set to compete in the BBC this season.
With a revised tournament schedule of three back-to-back fishing days (with the exception of the Central Abaco Championship), look for casual mid-tournament social functions. This will include barbecues where each team brings the catch or 'freezer find' of the day and the host resort provides charcoal grilles and side dishes.
Hors d'oeuvres contests, a mixed drink challenge and other recipe competitions are being planned. Serious competitors like 'Harpo' Katz on Therapy and Capt. 'Snag' Holmes on the Perfect Parts need not worry as finalized schedules of the events with the competition for each tournament will be sent by BBC e-Update well in advance of the Bimini Championship. A golf tournament on the 'lay day' (Friday) at the Central Abaco Championship is being planned by Treasure Cay Resort & Marina. Of course there will be special reduced greens fees and cart rentals for BBC participants. Make Your Slip Reservations NOW
All hosting resorts are holding slips for the BBC 2009 series. The BBC office notifies the resorts on a weekly basis with the names of teams registered for the tournaments. Your team is responsible for making slip and room reservations directly with the host resorts; however, be sure that your team is registered with the BBC first. The resorts will only reserve your slip once they confirm that your team is registered for the event. Slip reservations need to be made with the resort at least 30-days prior to the start of the tournament. If you have a slip and/or room preference, the sooner you make the reservations the better your chances of getting the preferred location. Special Flight Information
Gulfstream International Airlines, a Continental Connection Partner, is a major sponsor of the BBC. Gulfstream has regularly scheduled flights into all BBC tournament locations with the exception of Rock Sound, the airport servicing Cape Eleuthera. Gulfstream offers the popular Sun Pac that reduces the cost of travel to and from the tournaments.
In addition to being serviced by Gulfstream, Bimini, the site of the first BBC tournament, is also served by Lynx Air from Ft. Lauderdale. Gold Aviation has an afternoon flight scheduled from Ft. For those fishing the Cape Eleuthera Championship, Twin Air Calypso has two scheduled flights daily out of Ft. Lauderdale. In addition, BahamasAir has two scheduled flights out of Nassau into Rock Sound as well. Most major air carriers including Gulfstream service Nassau and that may be a better option if you are not originating your flight at Ft. Lauderdale. |
