Every year December comes. And every year, it brings the cold weather, the short days, and the invitation to reflect on the year that's passed.
For The SweatBox, we are still rejoicing in our 10th year anniversary glow. Ten years ago, we were just pregnant with this dream of The SweatBox. Now, we've been through labor, and the crazy days of no sleep, some colic, and lots of temper tantrums. But like all good parents, we are still madly in love with our little baby. The SweatBox, for us, is a constant source of joy, pride, and celebration. We've said it before, and I guarantee we'll say it again, you all, the students of The SweatBox, are the energy that drives us. Thank you all for your support these ten years.

 Bikram: The GiftBy Andrea Bacik
Bikram yoga came to me as a gift. For my 50 something birthday, a dear, sweet friend invited me as her birthday treat. As someone who always made exercise a priority in life (as a mother of 5, I'd love to have a penny for every mile I put on a stroller!), my friend thought "hot" yoga was something I should experience. She prepared me as best she could. The rest was up to me. I always remember my first instructor, the tattoos on the person in front of me, but most importantly, the high I felt, after. Wanting to be a good steward of my friend's gift, I went 4 times the first week. And after the fourth time, I knew I was in it for life. And I had only begun to experience the first of many gifts that Bikram Yoga would bring to me.
The physical. Who doesn't try it just to shed some pounds? I'd had a late in life baby and truly that was my motivation. Plain and simple, get my body back. For me, that happened within the first couple of months. Yeah, I thought, it works. But, that was only the beginning........
Then something I wasn't even looking for started to happen. This wonderful sense of community not only with the owners and teachers, but all the others who practice. I began to understand the concept of "shared energy." How fun it is to walk into that wonderfully warm room and see all my favorite people there, doing what most won't do, but doing it anyway for the betterment of themselves and ultimately, everyone around them.

 She was a student. Now she's a teacher!Welcome home Shavon.
Shavon started practicing Bikram yoga in 2004 with a very good friend of hers. Hooked from the start, she began cleaning the studio to pay for the yoga. Upon moving to Seattle from the Bay Area, Shavon found The SweatBox and it was love at first sight. After cleaning and watching her fellow students go to training, come back and teach and blossom into shiny new people she decided it was her turn. She attended Fall 2011 training in LA. She loves to blog her experiences with Bikram yoga and life at www.teachbikramorbust.com. When not practicing or studying dialogue, she's in the kitchen making Pi or any other sweet vegan treat. Shavon loves everything and anything Star Trek related and hanging out with her family-- 2 hounds and a man. |

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Because we're surprised by it every year, we like to plan ahead for any kind of winter weather. Please know that we follow the school district closures for our early morning classes.
So, for Capitol Hill, please follow the Seattle Public Schools closure schedule and for Shoreline , please follow their closure schedule.
Closures usually affect only the 6am classes, so please check our website to see if the 930am class for that day is canceled.
