Dearest Yogis and Yoginis,
Those of us who have lived in Seattle for a while know that July in Seattle is the best month of the year. The long days, the fairly regular show of sun. There is so much to do with water and mountains surrounding us. We hope you'll all come to the outdoor class at Richmond Beach on July 18th to do Yoga with us in these glorious Northwest surroundings.

We thank all of our veteran students for being such a welcoming presence for all of the new students who found The SweatBox through Living Social in June. And, to all of you newbies, stay the course, as challenging as it is sometimes. As you'll read in long-time student Flavia's testimonial below, the journey has just begun. We are all lifetime students of Yoga and the ride is complex, dynamic and sometimes hard. But the payoff is life-changing and so we keep practicing and practicing and practicing.

June was an amazing month for lots of reasons. Here are a few: We raised $300 to support the Homeless Animal Fund at The Rainier Veterinary Hospital, $250 for the Guatemala Project, a SweatBox project that helps sends kids in Antigua, Guatemala to school, and we donated a series of packages to Food Lifeline to support their auction. Also, in June, we had a LOT of young people practicing with their parents. Some teenagers came under duress. Others seemed willing. They all kicked butt! As parents, we want what is best for our children and, as children, we want to see our parents healthy and happy. Seeing all of the parent-child combos in June was inspiring for all of us. Young and old and in between, keep practicing your Yoga so you can keep up that feeling of being happy and healthy.

Namaste,
Laura and Frankie

100 days
By Flavia Lagrange
Flavia Lagrange
It all started with the 30-Day Challenge in March.  I had not been practicing as regularly as I had wanted, and I figured the 30-Day Challenge would give me the boost I needed. About a week earlier I had left an emotionally toxic job and felt the timing was just right.  At the end of the challenge, I wanted more, and I decided to go for 60 days, I said "why not?"  I am still not working, so I certainly have the time.

Around days 50-55 or so, I entertained the idea of going for 90 days, then around days 70-75, I felt I didn't think I wanted to go for 90 (I am not exactly sure why) but my head was saying I didn't think I could do it.  During the whole time, I was getting so much support and kudos from the fabulous teachers at The SweatBox, that I decided to go for 90, then thought "what's 10 more days?"  It was hilarious how my social life was scheduled around yoga, (it still kinda is) and I think my family and friends are tired of hearing about it.  Oh well.  They say it takes 28 straight days of doing something to form a habit.  Boy did I form a habit all right.  A good one.  I took 4 days off after my 100th day.  I have to be honest, I felt like a little lost lamb, always thinking about yoga, and missed it terribly.

The first question people ask me is- "how do you feel?"  There are so many things, but the first is, there are parts of my muscles that have never been stretched until now.  Being able to go deeper into postures is so fun, and when I wake up the next day, muscles are sore that have never been sore before.  My body feels solid, strong, and is hungry for more.  As far as my mind, heart and spirit, I feel solid and strong there as well.  This journey has made me learn to "not sweat the small stuff" - literally.  Bikram Yoga is a form of preventative medicine at its finest, not only physically, but emotionally as well.  I am grateful that I am able to practice as much as I do.  Some (well...a lot) of the classes still kick my ass.  Hard.  But in a good way.  Knowing about all of the benefits keeps me coming back.

I started my practice about 7 years ago, at a small studio in the University District neighborhood.  It was in the winter, and I remember leaving the studio after my first class, and my skin was steaming outside, literally steaming.  I couldn't believe the experience I just had.  I remember thinking - "jeezus, this is crazy!"  My first teacher gave me my "base"  which I feel is a strong one. I still hear her words about Bikram Yoga and postures run through my head sometimes as I practice now.  And just now understanding the true meaning.  One of my favorites she used to say was;
"Bikram says, if your spine is in alignment, then your life is in alignment" I feel that is so true, and it applies to so much.  Listening isn't easy sometimes, and it feels great, when I "get it".  I still have a lot of learning, growing and listening to do with my Bikram Yoga Practice. In life too.  And I can't wait.

Flavia can be found practicing (and helping out in a myriad of ways) at The SweatBox Shoreline.
