Dear Yogis and Yoginis,
This season's 30-Day Challenge was a real tear-jerker. So many of you put yourselves first, many of you for the FIRST time in your lives. What a gift for you who made this commitment and what a stunning thing for all of us to witness.
Yoga is many things. It is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. It is a place to see yourself clearly and a place to discover pieces of you that you've never known. The other day when I was rescheduling a dentist's appointment for my daughter, I realized how much easier it is to commit to the doctor, the dentist, the accountant, the piano teacher, than it is to commit to our yoga practice. What motivates this attitude? Money, responsibility, reputation? If you blow off your dentist appointment, they'll make you pay anyway. And, if you blow off your yoga practice, your body and your mind will make you pay. If we can learn anything from our 30-Day Challengers, it is that commitment is possible. One of our wise Shoreline students (you know who you are) said to me recently, "Self-discipline is the greatest expression of self-love." Dig deep people and find your commitment to yourselves this fall. We'll see you on the mat.

Yoga is a great practice for teen girls. For many young women, practicing yoga is the first time they experience their own body strength. The essential tools of controlling the body and mind that come from regular yoga practice help to improve self-esteem, body-image, energy and productivity. Yoga also relieves stress and helps with hormone imbalances. Please let us know if you want us to send a flyer to your high school or community group.

30-Day Challenge
The tears, the laughter, the pain..... The END of the 30-Day Challenge
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!!
"I decided to do the 30-Day Challenge because I wanted to know I could complete something I started. At about day 22, I realized it was going to happen. I was going to finish. When I started, and here I will use a metaphor of sorts, it seemed I was standing in front of a gray wall that extended infinitely to either side and overhead. Behind me, was the past. As the days of the challenge went by, the wall--the unknown--dissipated and seems to have left in its place a fearlessness I have not previously experienced. I know this sounds rather dramatic, but this last month has been the most amazing experience."-- Keetje, Age 55
"When you do this yoga day after day after day, it's much easier to simply let it go and be in it rather than worry about what class will be like. I am much more present in my everyday life and less concerned with what happened yesterday or what I need to do tomorrow. I have the 30-Day challenge to thank for that. I have a renewed faith in myself and what I can achieve after completing the 30-Day challenge. Physically I am stronger and my practice has improved tremendously. I now go deeply into the postures that I struggled with in the beginning."-- Judy, Age 41
Thanks to Liz Sylvester at Emerald City Smoothie in Shoreline for donating smoothies to all of the challengers!

New Teachers at The SweatBox
Brooke Rawlings
Since the Spring of 2008. I have taught in Las Vegas, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah. I moved back to the Seattle area in October and am so happy to be back in the Northwest.
Prior to February 2008 I had lived in the high powered corporate world. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where I began working in a corporate environment at age 18. My work took me to Seattle, Washington where I continued working the 12 hour/day type of job for six years. Eventually I was brought out to Las Vegas. The stress, anxiety and obvious need to detox daily brought on by that job was what prompted me to take my first Bikram Yoga class on April 10, 2007. I instantly fell in love with the yoga, more importantly, I fell in love with how I felt after class. I bought an annual package after my second yoga class....sounds crazy, right? Best decision I ever made for myself.
Teachers in Training: Barb Brown and Gary Smith
Are both at Bikram Teacher Training in Las Vegas. We haven't heard from Barb (we know she's a superstar!). And here's a word from Gary.....
Barb peeking out from behind....
Hard to believe I'm 4 weeks into teacher training! Things are going very well! Knock on wood! Learning From the man himself is sheer terror and joy. I never thought i could handle 2 classes a day but like any other class, it's one breath at a time. Totally possible! Even when BIkram keeps us up till 3 or 4 in the morning. I'm becoming friends with amazing people from ALL OVER the world! There are 302 of us! We also have many many teachers coming and going helping us through these hard times. Because yes, it is hard. I am really doing my best to learn as much as possible to become the best Bikram yoga teacher I can. There is so much more I could say, but I gotta get back to work. HA! I love and miss you all! Everyone please..... Keep busting your butt!!! Keep practicing!!! Kill yourself so you can truly live! Gary
