Floor Series Posture Workshop at Shoreline

Sunday, April 19th, was the second of a 2-part posture clinic held at the Shoreline studio by Frankie and Laura. It was encouraging to see so many people in attendance despite the sunny Seattle day and the heavy I-5 traffic. The first clinic in March focused on the standing series, while this installation went through the entire floor series posture by posture. Students were able to ask questions and receive answers both verbally and through demonstrations. Once the postures had been addressed, general questions were asked that gave us a chance to explore some of the buzz myths that surround Bikram and this yoga series, including all of those cars! As a highlight, Frankie and Laura came around during the class and made individualized physical adjustments. It is one thing to understand mentally the answers to your questions, but it is quite another to feel the benefits of them during your practice. It is amazing what the human body is capable of, especially when it is your body and you are all of sudden going deeper into a posture than you ever thought possible. The fear of letting go and surrendering to the experience can be quite profound, but once a little bit of that fear is dissipated and the discovery of what you are capable of is revealed, you can never go back, even if you think you do. I know my balancing stick will never be the same. Thank you Frankie and Laura for providing insightful answers to all of our questions! It was an afternoon well spent Practicing Camel Pose.

How Bikram Yoga Saved The Day
My sister came to visit, and we were doing some work on the house. We decided to take a break and go for an ice-cream cone at Baskin-Robbins, as this was one of those 'springy' days we had last week. I drove there, and when we arrived went to exit and learned something startling: my seatbelt wouldn't disengage! I pulled and tugged and pressed the button, but nothing. I have an '83 Tercel so guess maybe it was its time.
Anyways, I had to get out of the car, of course...so got myself free by bending and going under the part that goes over your legs...because that's all I could think to do...and I could!!! Had I not been doing Bikram yoga for a while, you wouldn't be reading this cause i'd still be in the car. My sister was practically crying laughing at me and my predicament and my contortions to be free...until I was free, then she was impressed.
I figured out less challenging ways to get free of my Tercel till I get it repaired.

It is hard to believe that we are approaching our 10,000th student at Capitol Hill and our 2,000th student at Shoreline. Although we continue to grow in size, we still feel like the little studio that could. This month we celebrate with Augusten Cole who practiced 64 days in a row. We are thrilled to have raised over $500 for the Guatemala project which means that we will be sending nine children to school in Antigua, Guatemala. Thank you!!! And it is all thanks to you, our students. You are inspiring. Rain or sleet or snow, you show up, you do your practice, and you go out into the bigger world and shine. Thank you for all of your support, your energy, and your commitment to yourselves and to The SweatBox.
