Representatives from Mullumbimby High, Byron High, Shearwater Steiner and Cape Byron Steiner were invited to join us at Byron Youth Service for a one-day Project U Turn workshop on Wed 12th October.
The purpose of the day was for young people to come together and work towards formulating peer led initiatives aimed at reversing youth binge drinking in the Byron Shire.
The day was a great success and we were so impressed and inspired by the leadership shown by these awesome young people.
The students will be involved in designing, developing and implementing a community based project which will provide them with the opportunity to become catalysts of change within their own circles of influence.
To top the day off, we had a team building exercise with Greg Sheehan, who engaged the students in a stimulating and fun percussion session to help strengthen the connections that were made on the day.

Yes! It's that time of the year again..Schoolies! Project U Turn will have a marquee up at Top Park again this year and we will be running the 'Blow Zero' competitions again as a harm minimization strategy. If the young person gets a zero reading on the breathalyzer, they will get a coloured wristband. If they come back the next night and blow zero again, they will get a second band and on the 3rd night if they blow zero they will receive a free tie-dyed souvenir t-shirt saying 'Byron Bay' 'Schoolies 2011'.
Our aim is to help young people delay that first drink of the day on as many days as possible by using positive incentives. Last year the initiative was so successful that we had a line out of the Schoolies Safety Hub and across the park! So come by and visit the hub from 7pm every evening over the two weeks and say hello!
