How would you deal with a hungry dino? With the ROM Ultimate Dinos app, summon up this augmented reality dino, then take photos of yourself and your new virtual pal and share them!
Something BIG has come to Toronto! Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology which layers digital information over a real environment to produce three-dimensional, life-like visuals.
The ROM's exhibition Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana, presented by investment dealer Raymond James, uses AR with newly discovered Southern Hemisphere dinosaurs to enhance the exhibition experience. The ROM is the first museum in Canada to use AR on this scale.
A visitor uses AR in the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibition to see what this dinosaur might have looked like "in the flesh".
In the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibition, three AR stations let you virtually flesh out dino skeletons. iPads are provided for you.
If you have an iPhone or iPad mobile digital device*, you can also download the free ROM Ultimate Dinosaurs app (see below). This allows you to activate three graphic markers inside the exhibition, as well as experiences on select ROM advertising.
"The AR stuff is great. There's a simulation of the skin; dinosaurs will actually turn and look at you if you tap them on certain parts of their body." - Mathew, ROM Visitor, Toronto
"...like no other dinosaur exhibit you will have ever experienced! So add it to your 'MUST SEE' list." - Urbanmoms.ca
