Week's Random Thought:

It's all about. Release. Force. And surrender. Democritus. A subpar Greek philosopher according to many scholars would grow to be known as the "father of modern science." Ignored, yet noble in travel, culture, and goodness, the lesser known Democritus' message travelled through ancient Greece and even touched the mighty Aristotle. People knew about him and still do. And another kind of smart guy, by the name of Plato wished all his books burnt.

Yet, this very thought got me to thinking this week.  Do good messages or the message of good actual reach people even if you are away from them? Can one's purpose reach the masses? Can inspired music created in some basement sooth one's loneliness years after it was passed aside by so many others? YES. YES. YES to all three of those questions...Read More

Week's Random Thought:PartI

...Democritus was capable of spreading a message so deeply, that it resonated for centuries. And it still resonates today. One's life work does not need to last centuries to make a contribution but it must be created. And released into the world. To let it breath and immersed in the universe. That is our purpose as humans. Whether it is through gardening, being a volunteer, making love, creating music, generosity, or through an infinite amount of smaller gestures, it must be released to create, more force, more activity.

You see according to Democritus, we are all composed of Atoms. Atoms are indestructible. And atoms will always be in motion. Sounds like the soul. You see Democritus was a pretty smart dude. He and his friend Leucippus were Atomists. Atomists wanted to explain the world, the same world we live in today as a result of natural laws, leaving nothing to chance or randomness. Unlike the members of rival philosopher gangs, the Atomists attempted to explain the world without a presupposition of purpose, prime mover, or final cause. They were only concerned with answering the following question:

What earlier circumstances caused this event?

And this opposed what purpose did this event serve? Hmm, very interesting. For the Atomists, they looked before the actual to mark the actual event's progress and left nothing to theology to answer this question. Brilliant. You see they were looking beyond the creation, the creator or the prime mover of an event because ultimately, the original motion of atoms is still a force that remains unaccounted for.  Original thought and creation touch and power chords leave the same indestructible force behind. It seeps into the world and will always be in motion. We are a result of previous events and prior energies. It all helps us be and sound the way we are. Music and humans are that force. Like atoms, that are different in shape, size and temperature, our music and the people we share it with has the same power to shape and create a force so powerful, it will ultimately resonate forever. And it will not be destroyed. And it cannot be accounted for. Just experienced infinitely.
