Week's Random Thought:

Broken Heart. Check. Love Lost. Check. Departure and Longing. Check. Betrayal. Check. Disappointment, resentment, hysterical crying. Check, check, check. Yet you persevere and come out a better person. Love and life re-found. Check.

In the study of biology, smart people like to talk about how organisms can regenerate. The organism is said to regenerate a damaged or lost part if it regrows so that the original function is restored.

Brilliant concept. Regeneration has been known to work in Salamanders, Planaria, but not humans. And while we're pretty smart at Loudvine, we are not about to take on proven biologists from around the world. But it did get me thinking about the regenerative power that is all around us...Read More

Week's Random Thought:PartI

...If according to some research, children can regrow severed fingers, kidney's can regenerate, and the liver can rebuild itself from as little as 25% of its tissue, why not the heart and the human spirit?

We will not step into a lab to make this point. But the heart, and the tears that come along with that ever fragile human experience called LIFE, can elevate you to new heights or devastate you to wearing sweatpants for months on end as you just can't make it through whatever ails you. Yet, think about it, you always make it through what you felt you were not capable of making it through. The thing about regeneration is that the more complex an animal is the less regeneration is capable of. I don't agree with that.

The thing about the human condition is our own ability to regrow or regenerate, to refocus from disappointment and loneliness to expectations and dreams, from isolation to companionship, from hatred to love. We allow ourselves to be what we allow ourselves to be. After our experiences, we still have the same tissues, muscle matter, DNA and still need bodily fluids and air to keep us alive. But now through our experiences, we make it work differently. But it works because we allow ourselves the necessary changes to make ourselves better people.

Love loss and tragedy are met with knowledge and happiness. You see it is all the same and part of the continuation of one's journey. The human form of regeneration is about letting ourselves be brought back to a newer, better place. But with a greater understanding the next time around.  The heart beats stronger each time it resurfaces from a previous disappointment.

The past few weeks have been about reflection on how music has always been at the core of helping me deal with a particular phase of my life. So whether the soundtrack of my life has been set to rock, punk, folk, house, hip hop, or jazz, the next phase might be just a tad different. The exploration and knowledge that you will grow; that your damaged part or lost part will return could be restored is really powerful. The heart, that which defines us, must be allowed to do what it has to do. Let it grow by doing something so out of character, so about someone else this week, that you allow someone to regenerate just a small part of themselves. And set this task to a new soundtrack. It will make all the difference.
