Week's Random Thought:
Sodom. And Lot. The two are forever
connected in one of the great stories ever told. Sodom, one of the five towns
that comprised the Pentapolis. Lot the nephew of Abraham, a resident of Sodom, would
become a historical footnote on the choices we all make as humans in this
world. At some point, God informs Abraham, that he plans to destroy the
city of Sodom because of its wickedness. But when you cleanse your own thoughts
at reading this, you recognize that God's punishment on the peeps of Sodom, was
about, of course, teaching them another valuable lesson...Read More

Week's Random Thought Part II:
We
have found Bin Laden. Ok we have not, after all running a music website
keeps us busy enough. Geographers, some pretty smart people at UCLA have
recently published a research, yet they cannot get anyone at the F.B.I to read
it. The funny thing is what they wrote would likely lead to the
capture of this tall dude, chillan somewhere in Pakistani town of Parachinar.
The UCLA team has been working with a geographical, scientific approach that
has been around for a while...Read More

Week's Random Thought:
...
You see the moral of the story of
Sodom, whether it be told through the rabbinic writings, Christian texts or
even Islamic point of view, is that it evolved from God's concerns that the
citizens of this town had grown too self-involved, wicked, and disconnected with the
outside world. They were arrogant and avoided contact with outsiders. They were
not showing their fellow humans the hospitality they needed. You see
hospitality was the buzz word for the proper way to act towards others in those
biblical times. Wow. What a concept. Treating others well. God was crazy at
that time but what an amazing lesson to teach people. God simply wanted the Sodomites to be better neighbors. When you look
around at the current situation, we are all interconnected and cannot escape that
our actions, will ultimately affect someone else's sphere of existence. We have
a growing unemployment rate, people needing hand outs, and the government
spending my unborn kids' kid taxes. Yet we can all be better neighbors to those around us.
Yet
there is something to be said about feeling you're way through these moments of
uncertainty. I honestly feel that technology, is affecting our world, like lack
of hospitality, affected the peeps of Sodom so many years ago. We are losing
that connection that is so vital, so human, so touch driven, that it makes me wonder,
if we have really grown that separated from everything going on around us
because we are so focused only on the fruits of our immediate surroundings.
Connection has to be rediscovered through an organic approach and philosophy
that allows you to just be you.
Put the iPhone down and volunteer, tell someone
how wonderful they are for no reason, rescue a dog, make someone a playlist,
pop in on them to say hey(totally unannounced), help an old person cross the
street, plant a tree, pick up your buddies band and drive them to the OC for a
gig if they cannot get there on their own. Just do something this week.
Whatever it is, we all must be of service and connected. Look beyond yourself,
unlike he Sodomites did, and make a contribution to the world outside your
immediate surroundings. Connect with someone that you have not with for a while
and show them a random act of kindness that can help someone aspire to
something greater. Give thanks for all you have.

 Week's Random Thought Part II:
The approach, known as Distance
Decay Theory, states that as animals, even people, move further away from their
preferred place of habitation, the probability of them finding an environment
compatible to them will decrease exponentially. The second and just as
important principal is dubbed Island Biogeographic Theory. Now this is
brilliant and states: that an animal or human is most likely to move into the
largest, closest area that can fulfill our needs. That is a pretty simple way
of summing up the human race, and how we gravitate to what works. If you think
about it, these scientific models could work and help us explain how we seek
love, partners, friends to drink with, work, and of course, night life. We
luv smart peeps like those at UCLA. Now, when you look at it, LA LA Land has something
for all of us. Yet so many people are not willing to explore outside their own
little territory. If we use these "geographic profiling"
techniques it puts our nonstop quest for live music into a new perspective. Yet
the challenge is vast when you look at LA because it is so dam large.
We are drawn to different locales,
different people, different sounds on a nightly basis, yet we co-exist in the
la night life under one guiding principal--we are constantly trying to be in
the environment that provides us with as much music as possible. The hipsters
would have you believe, that the only place to be, to see the emergence of
incredible music on any given night, would be in the Silverlake and Echo Parque
areas. But what we have found is the diversity that is LA, separated by
freeways with numbers and long drives, is that no matter what you are into, you
can find it in different pockets. There is an explosion of new venues, music spots
and 'scenes' popping up almost on a nightly basis. Let us help you find for you the
area that meets all your music needs. We know because of this research, you will
probably not leave your 'hood.
Our Loudvine "profiling" will help you
locate everything by genre, date and area. Live in Glendale, its ok. Live on
the Westside, chill by the tranquil waters of the South Bay, we can help you
find everything music in your area. Live in the burbs and need to blow off some
steam, we got that to. We can't help the government find Bin Laden. And
our site might not be as scientific as UCLA's research, but scour the site and
we willl help you find the peeps in your hood and the music you need. We live by
the principals of the study that says people gravitate towards the area that
can provide for all their needs. Give us a chance.
