These enrichment programs for kids and teens are brought to you by Adult and Community Education (ACE), an integral part of Fairfax County Public Schools. Most ACE programs are supported by student fees and are not funded from the school system's operating budget.

Smoking Kids' Movies

Kids who watch movies with more smoking are more likely to become smokers. But three of six major studios have policies to reduce scenes of smoking in movies rated G, PG and PG-13. 

 

 "The fact that there's a lot less smoking in movies now than there was in 2005 means that fewer kids are starting to smoke as a result of the movies.''

At-Large School Board Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area (LWVFA) and the Fairfax County Council of PTAs (FCCPTA) are co-sponsoring a televised At-Large School Board Candidates Forum on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at 6:30 pm on Fairfax Public Access Channel 10 during the Inside Scoop news show.

 

The participating at-large school board candidates will be divided into two forums, each of which will have approximately 28 minutes to respond to questions created by LWVFA and FCCPTA.

 

This event is in partnership with Jim Southworth's Inside Scoop productions. Olga Hernandez, past president of the LWVFA and the LWVVA, will moderate. Details.

 

Elementary enrichment programs  
A World of Language
These language classes offer exposure to, confidence in, and practice with a world language. Classes are taught by experienced instructors and provide a fun way to keep children engaged in learning throughout the year.  
 

Foreign Language Experience (FLEX)

Through stories, games, activities, and music, children experience a world of language and its culture. Languages: Chinese, French, Hindi, Italian, German, Korean, American Sign Language, and Spanish. Offered at FCPS elementary schools.

 

French and Spanish Immersion

Students hone conversation skills, continue to learn correct grammar, and apply what they are learning by writing short paragraphs. Offered at Laurel Ridge and White Oaks elementary schools.

 

American Sign Language - Basics for Parents and Babies

Enjoy interacting with your child as you learn to communicate with each other using non-verbal means. Offered at Woodson HS.

Student driver

The ACE driver education program is designed to help parents and teens through the critical first stages of driving and provides a solid foundation for safe and responsible driving.
