Greetings!

How do you like the summer 2009 catalog cover? Karen Randall, a local artist and ACE art student, illustrated our new educational facility featured on the cover (left) in oils. How she managed to create the finished likeness of The Plum Center for Lifelong Learning with only a CAD drawing and a photo of the building in mid-construction to go on is anybody's guess!

Even though the summer term of classes is open you can still take advantage of a number of available April classes. Please note the new daytime and evening classes at Plum, too!

May the muse be with you always.

Connected: Creativity and Longevity
Link to vitality discovered

Jennifer Schoechle teaches art classes at Green Spring Village, a retirement community in Springfield, and enjoys working with the senior population. We are indebted to her for bringing this topic to our attention.

Recent research indicates that frequent engagement in creative endeavors benefits the elderly's health and mental well-being. Preliminary findings documented so compellingly the profound effect of creative self-expression on senior vitality and longevity that a national conference was called on the subject in Newark in 2006. Since then, a host of initiatives related to arts and aging have emerged in its wake.
