Balboa Beach Music Fest Debuts October 13th |
Ten of the hottest adult alternative musicians will perform during the inaugural Balboa Beach Music Fest on Saturday October 13th at Peninsula Park in Newport Beach. Benefiting the Balboa Performing Arts Theater Foundation and the renovation of the 300-seat historic Balboa Theater, this 2-stage festival will feature headlining artists A Fine Frenzy, Joshua Radin, Maria McKee and Matt Nathansan (pictured above). Admission to the festival starts at just $45 and parking and shuttle service is free. Gates open at 11am, live music from noon - 10pm. More than 30 well-known innovators, artists, educators, scientists, and industry leaders will take the Segerstrom Concert Hall stage on Wednesday October 10, 2012 to deliver thought-provoking and inspirational stories about the theme "Redefining Relevance" during the 2012 TEDxOrangeCoast conference. Like all other TEDx events, TEDxOrangeCoast is independently produced by a team of local visionaries to bring the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading," to their community. The conference will take place from 8:30am - 5:30pm and will consist of both live speakers and screenings of some of the best TEDtalks. FORMER OC SUPERVISOR & THEATRE CO-FOUNDER
CHUCK SMITH HAS DIED
Charles V. Smith, who served as City Council Member and Mayor of Westminster and later on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, has died at age 80. According to the Orange County Register obituary, Smith was also a one of the founders of the Westminster Community Theatre for which he designed the theatre's lighting system. |
OC YOUTH SYMPHONY WINS 2012 AMERICAN PRIZE IN
ORCHESTRAL PERFORMANCE
The Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra (OCYSO) has been named winner of the 2012 American Prize in Orchestral Performance - Youth Orchestra Division. The American Prize is a series of new, non-profit, competitions unique in scope and structure, designed to recognize and reward the very best performing artists and ensembles in the United States based on recorded performances. The American Prize was founded in 2009 and is awarded annually in many areas of the performing arts.
