Nationally-renowned Performance Artist Makes Orange County Appearance June 16th:

 

Marc Bamuthi Joseph in The Spoken World

 

The inaugural season of Arts Happenings at the Orange County Great Park's new Palm Court Arts Complex, presented in collaboration with Arts Orange County, concludes with an audacious and astounding "poetry in motion" program featuring award winner Marc Bamuthi JosephThe performance takes place on Saturday, June 16 at 6 pm, and admission and parking are free.  Details here.

 

 

Using his signature art form of "choreopoetry," a highly theatrical and mesmerizing blend of spoken word and dance movement, Marc Bamuthi Joseph articulates the story of achieving manhood in the United States through the lens of hip hop, global travel, and urban environmental health.

 

An inaugural recipient of the United States Artists Rockefeller Fellowship, which annually recognizes 50 of the country's "greatest living artists",  he is also the 2011 Alpert Award winner in Theater.  In April 2012, he was one of 21 artists to be named to the inaugural class of Doris Duke Artists.  He currently serves as Director of Performing Arts at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.

Ed Fosmire Returns to OC as Deputy Director of Laguna Art Museum

Laguna Art Museum has appointed Ed Fosmire as its new Deputy Director.  Fosmire has served as Executive Director of the Oceanside Museum of Art since April 2010.  Prior to joining OMA, Fosmire was the director of development at California State University, Long Beach; director of development and marketing at the Long Beach Museum of Art; and director of grants for the Arts Council of Long Beach. He also worked in the education departments of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the Orange County Museum of Art. For the past nine years he has taught art history course as an adjunct faculty member at Chapman University.
Huntington Beach Resident Winner of Playwrighting Festival
Huntington Beach writer Eric Eberwein is one of the winners of "The Seven," the seventh annual short works festival of FUSION Theatre Company, New Mexico's professional theatre company.  Eberwein's work, "The Return Engagement," was chosen from a submission pool of 748 scripts from 43 states and nine countries.  FUSION will also produce the world premiere of this play June 7-10 at The Cell Theatre in Albuquerque.

Poets & Writers, the nation's largest nonprofit organization serving creative writers, invites California writers to apply for the 2013 California Writers Exchange Award. Poets and fiction writers who are residents of California and have never published a book, or have published only one full-length book in the genre they're entering, are eligible.  Guidelines and application forms are available here.  Applications must be postmarked by August 31, 2012.

Emerging Arts Leaders - Orange County

 

Arts Orange County debuts the newest network of Americans for the Arts's Emerging Leaders Program.  Emerging Arts Leaders - Orange County (EAL-OC) will provide new and emerging arts leaders in their 20's and 30's with opportunities for networking, panel discussions, site visits, and professional development.  Individuals interested in more information are encouraged to contact Kristina Colby, Program Coordinator, Arts Orange County, and invited to complete this online survey.
