Great Carpool Week Story to share!

Smart Commute Markham, Richmond Hill invited all drivers to "give it a try" during Carpool Week Feb 7th - 11th, and send us their carpool story.

Thank you for all your carpool week story submissions!!!

And Congratulations to Patty Carlson, our Carpool Week Contest lucky winner of a $50 gas card!

Patty's carpool story:

"My 2 daughters and myself made an effort to ride as far as we could together this week. There is a huge advantage to being able to use the carpool\bus lane on Yonge St.. I go as far as Yonge and Finch, daughters go downtown and to Yonge and Eglinton. We often take seperate cars because of activities after work or different timelines etc. This week we co-ordinated to have everyone trying hard to carpool by arranging worktimes to accomodate others arrival and departure needs.

It made a big difference in our commute time to Yonge and Finch from Bathurst and Major Mack area. Travelling with 3 or more persons in the carpool lane really saves time! (about 10 to 15 minutes daily"

Visit www.smartcommutemrh.ca  for more carpool week stories and information about other alternate commute options that can help you save money, time and the environment!!!

Carpool week. Raj Sreenivasan carpools to his Mississauga job. The Richmond Hill father says carpooling helps lower the cost of commuting.

Carpoolers battle gridlock...

Carpooler Raj Sreenivasan misses nothing about the days when he used to drive to work on his own.The Richmond Hill resident was once like the majority of GTA commuters, sitting solo in the conga-line of cars creeping and crawling to their work destination.

Now, after close to three years of sharing driving duties with three other co-workers, it's during this week, dubbed national carpool week, Mr. Sreenivasan looks back at a time when commuting was much more costly.

During national carpool week, employers and individuals are encouraged to visit carpoolzone.ca powered by Smart Commute, where commuters can visit its website and free Carpool Zone ride matching service.

What is Smart Commute Markham, Richmond Hill?

Smart Commute is a not-for-profit sustainability initiative of the municipalities of Markham and Richmond Hill, York Region and Metrolinx. We help local employers and commuters, like you, explore different commute choices like carpooling, cycling and transit. Our goal is to ease gridlock, improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while making your commute less expensive and more enjoyable.

Your savings! In just five years, Carpool Zone users in the GTA have saved over ten million dollars and prevented  24,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions; the equivalent of about 9 million bricks!
