PNWA Executive Director to testify at Congressional hearing
On Wednesday, April 18, PNWA Executive Director Kristin Meira will appear at a U.S. House of Representatives hearing titled "How Reliability of the Inland Waterways System Impact Economic Competitiveness". Kristin will highlight the economic, environmental and national security benefits of the Columbia Snake River System (CSRS) before the Subcommittee on Water Resources & Environment of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. .
Kristin is one of six navigation representatives from around the nation invited to Washington, DC to participate in the hearing. Her testimony will focus on the CSRS's key role in moving commodities to domestic and international markets. In particular, she'll highlight the importance of maintaining our navigation infrastructure, and how cargo moved in the Northwest is often dependent on reliable barge transportation. She'll also tell the recent success story of the system's 2010-2011 lock maintenance closure, and the many investments being made in our region as a result.
