Senate requests WRDA 2010 submissions

Congress passed the last Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) in 2007.  The Senate Environment & Public Works is now soliciting project and policy submissions from Senators in advance of the possible creation of a WRDA 2010.  PNWA members will remember the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee had a similar call for projects last fall.

The Committee has given Senators until May 18, 2010 to submit projects and policy requests.  If you have not already done so, please contact PNWA staff immediately if you are aware of a water resources project in your area that requires authorization.  PNWA will of course be pursuing permanence for Section 214 regulatory staff funding authority as part of this effort.  For more information, log onto PNWA's WRDA webpage at http://pnwa.net/new/WRDA.aspx.

DOT publishes interim notice of funding for TIGER II Grants

Funds for National Infrastructure Investments, also known as "TIGER II Discretionary Grants", have been published in an interim notice from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).  The notice announced an availability of $600M, and laid out the criteria, pre-application and final application requirements for the funds.  They will be awarded on a competitive basis for projects that have a significant impact on the nation, a metropolitan area or a region.

DOT is currently requesting comments on the proposed selection criteria and guidance for awarding the funds.  PNWA will submit comments in support of a minimum of 25% being designated for port-related infrastructure needs.  DOT will take all comments submitted by 5pm EST on May 7, 2010 into consideration, and may release a revised copy of the interim guidance.  If significant changes are necessary, DOT will release a supplemental Federal Register notice no later than May 28, 2010.

The pre-application process for the funds will verify your project's general eligibility and will be available, along with submission instructions, on June 15, 2010 at www.dot.gov/recovery/ost/TIGERII.  The pre-application is due by July 16, 2010, and final applications must be submitted through www.grants.gov no later than August 23, 2010.  Grant awards will be announced no sooner than September 15, 2010.  To view the full interim notice and request for comments, please click here.  For additional information, contact Robert Mariner, TIGER II Discretionary Grant program manager, at TIGERIIGrants@dot.gov or 202-366-8914.
