Foss Maritime receives Small Shipyard Grants

On August 18, the Department of Transportation announced the recipients of the Small Shipyard Grant Program.  PNWA member Foss Maritime received two of these grants, to create and preserve jobs, provide valuable training for employees and make improvements to their shipyards.  Foss received $707,550 for their Rainier yard, and $621,761 for improvements at their Seattle facility.  The grants were awarded through the Maritime Administration's (MARAD) Shall Shipyards program, which received $100 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  These stimulus funds provide a $90 million increase to what the program had received in 2008, and allow for much needed capital improvements and related infrastructure improvements at shipyards across the nation.
