Neighborhood Stabilization Program Launch
This summer, the ROOF Project launched its Neighborhood Stabilization Program, a collaborative effort of the City of New Haven, the Greater New Haven Community Loan Fund, and the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven. We have acquired the first two properties this month, and will be working with participating developers to rehab them and get them occupied as affordable homeownership or rental units.
You can view the comprehensive Neighborhood Stabilization Program plan and learn more about the program on our website.

Legislation to Help Renters
In May 2009, new federal legislation was passed providing additional protection to renters whose landlord has been foreclosed upon. Under the new legislation, all renters must be given 90 days notice before the new bank-owner can start the eviction. In New Haven, organizations like New Haven Legal Assistance can help renters with any problems or concerns.
We have a new two-page informational flyer available in English and Spanish.
You can also visit our website for relevant renters' information and the online toolkit regarding the new law for renters in foreclosure (from the National Low Income Housing Coalition).

Helping Homeowners in 2008
In 2008 and 2009, foreclosure intervention counselors at Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven and the Greater New Haven Community Loan Fund have worked with over 800 individuals and families, of which over 300 are from the City of New Haven, to help them evaluate their options and stay in the home where possible. Of resolved cases, about 60% resulted the positive outcome of the homeowner keeping the home.
If you or someone you know is having troubles with their mortgage, please contact the United Way's 2-1-1 hotline and they will refer you to one of our counselors who can help you. You can also refer them to our informational flyer for homeowners.
