"The future is as bright as the promises of God." These are the words of Adoniram Judson (1812-1850), America's first foreign missionary. To fully grasp the power of these words you have to know the circumstances in which they were said. Judson was in prison, his first wife had died, his Bible translation work of over ten years had been confiscated...these words were his response to a Burmese prison guard who tauntingly asked, "What do you think of your future in Burma now?" A tiny woman peeks through the cracks of the walls of her home. Nervously, she fingers the thick hoop wrapped snugly around her waist. Will this be the day? Cracking open the front door, she scans the thick forest surrounding her home. Seeing and hearing no one, she scales down the ladder to the ground. Careful to stay in the shadow beneath the raised multi-family dwelling, she makes her way to the village well. As quietly as she can, she collects her daily water supply and steals back to her home.
