What does it mean to grow-up? Is it the same as growing older? The term "grow up" means to behave in a mature manner. Growing older is something that comes naturally and can't be controlled. At Trinity Lutheran Preschool we provide our students with many opportunities to develop into a mature child of God. A child who is kind, caring, knows that Jesus loves them, enjoys being around their peers and interested in experiencing new things. This type of behavior doesn't occur overnight and it doesn't happen naturally. These behaviors need to be modeled and taught for a child to understand these concepts.
Trinity Lutheran Preschool opened in 2002 with 30 students, 16 four year olds and 14 three year olds. We've continued to grow over the years and today we have 84 children at our school. The three year olds meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the four year olds on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We have both morning and afternoon classes available. In years past, we have also had a young three year old class for children who turn three between September 1st and December 31st.
A typical day at Trinity Lutheran Preschool is filled with socializing, imagination, learning and fun. The children are instructed with age appropriate activities. This allows them to explore through their senses, expressing their creativity with shaving cream, paint, blocks, dress up clothes and music. Many books are read throughout the day including stories from the Bible, which lead to other activities. For example, while teaching about Noah, the children enjoy acting like the animals and riding in the ark.
Our curriculum also teaches about God's love and that Jesus is our best friend. Many of the children enter preschool not knowing Jesus or the sacrifice he made for us. A child once told her teacher, she didn't know if she believed in Jesus. Through bible lessons and modeling the love Jesus taught us, that child now believes in Jesus and is excited to learn more about him.
Throughout the year the children participate in many special events. Some of their favorites are pet day, birthday parties and field trips. In May, we encourage the children's compassion by participating in the St. Jude's Trike-a-Thon. On this day the students bring their bikes and practice safe riding skills on a designated course while raising money for the hospital.
Trinity Lutheran Church and Preschool excels in connecting their members to the preschool families. Our prayer sponsor program offers opportunities for the members to pray for the children and their families throughout the year. Cards are shared with the children on their birthdays and special occasions too. The preschool children also share songs they have learned and a slide show with the congregation one Sunday in February. These connections help the preschool families build relationships with other Christians besides the preschool staff. Over the years many families have joined the church after their child graduated from preschool because they didn't want to end these relationships.

The teachers at Trinity Lutheran Preschool are planting seeds into their students' hearts that will continue to flourish for years to come. They are giving them the foundation to grow old with kind hearts and the ability to make good choices in life.
