National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
Celebrates:
The Week of the Young Child
April 10-16, 2011

What is the Week of the Young Child?

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 90,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child is a time to plan how we--as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation--will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.  For a direct link to the NAEYC for more information click here.

Calling All Artists:

The LCMS National Children's Ministry Conference (NCMC) will showcase the artistic talents of our children.  The committee is calling for donations of artwork from children in three age group categories, ages 3-5, ages 6-8 and ages 9-12, who attend LCMS Congregations or their schools.  Two-dimensional works of art must depict images on the theme: Christ + Children + Community.  Three d-dimensional works of art must resemble footwear and depict the conference theme: Sandals to Sneakers.  Submission critera, entry form and mailing information may be found here.  All works of art must be received no later than June 1, 2011.

Contributed artwork will be on exhibit at the conference and available for "purchase" by donation.  All monetary donations will be given, in the names of the artists, to selected charitable organizations that serve children.  The art will also be featured in an online exhibit found on the LCMS website.
