"What Works (Continued)"
Last month we gave you the beginning of a list of things that many director's, presenter's for our webinars, etc., have shared with us. The list below is a continuation of these ideas. We will be sharing with you more of their ideas throughout July and August.
As much as we have great ideas, and the ability to put them into play, the most important idea of all that makes outreach successful is still:
"The pastor must be visible and involved, the professional school staff will do what they have always done in providing a Christian education for the children so that they will have "Jesus in their heart", and the lay people of the congregation must develop relationships with the families that are relevant and lasting."
1. Annual church and preschool picnic hosted by the preschool on the playground. Congregation personally invited by the preschool students.s
2. Preschool families personally invited by a member of congregation to all congregation fellowships.
3. Teachers serve appreciation breakfast for volunteers at the end of the year.
4. Prayer cards-have first names of students-ask pastor to have prayer each week in church for students and their families.
5. Develop a creative note that is sent to families. Make a positive statement that shares your passion for serving their child.
6. Make sure families have the school phone number and an email address where they can contact the director or teacher during the summer months.
7. Family worship events for preschool families, congregation, and community.
8. School joins local Chamber of Commerce-connecting with the community "outside".
9. Random phone calls throughout the summer intentionally keeping connection with families.
10. Class picture included with thank you notes-as cards done at Wal-mart, Costco, etc.
We invite you to keep sharing the ideas that you, your staff, pastor, and congregations develop for your school and congregation with us.
