Dear Friends,
We hope that you have had a wonderful beginning to your school year as you welcome the children and their families. Although it is only September we know that some of you are thinking ahead to the Christmas Service or Program that you will hold in December as you celebrate Jesus' birthday. We want to share some resources and ideas that may be useful to you.

Cathy Skogen-Soldner has Christmas programs and services that are age appropriate and moderately priced.
www.cathysmusic.com Karyn Henley has many resources to use with preschool children. You will find her musical programs on her website under the title: Playsongs Musicals for Preschoolers.
Concordia Publishing House has Christmas Services with several options, including an early childhood component.
Christian Tools of Affirmation has early Childhood Christmas Programs on CD. They also have accompanying materials such as books and ornaments to go with the program. Prices are very reasonable.

| Early Childhood Centers hold their Christmas services or programs at many different times: Sunday afternoon, a weekday evening, during an Advent service, or as the message (sermon) for a Sunday morning service. Here's a new one to us: "We tried having our programs at 11:00 a.m. on a school day followed by a luncheon of finger sandwiches, fruit and cookies. Our parents came over on their lunch hour to see the program and have lunch with their child. No one's holiday weekend had yet another event and little ones were not taken out during the evening. Our families really liked the way it worked for all."
Some centers are taking advantage of the technology of digital pictures or video to present their services or programs. The children act out the story and are photographed ahead of time. Then the pictures or video can be shown during the service, perhaps as families sit together. They can also be used in a church service or to show to various congregation groups. How wonderful if each family could have a copy.
