Pick of the Week:
Fresh from our Farms

North Star Orchard

North Star Orchards

North Star Orchard in Cochranville, PA, is making their 2012 debut at our market with apples, peaches, a (few) early Asian pears, garlic, rainbow chard, and a number of other specialty and heirloom goodies, grown using organic practices in the vegetable garden! They specialize in growing unique and heritage varieties of tree fruits and a wide variety of vegetables.

Down Home Acres

Farmer Paul Crognale said this Saturday might be the end of his luscious, heirloom tomatoes for a few weeks until a new crop comes in.   This farm in Oley, PA, provides Collegeville with organically-grown heirloom veggies, including a rainbow of tomatoes and cucumber varieties, plus herbs and sweet melons. em.

Frecon Farms

frecon peaches

Frecon Farms, in Boyertown, reports that its gone from reaping one of their largest peach harvests in years, straight into a very, early apple harvest. They've already begun picking apples and pears.

Soon, they'll begin pressing fresh apple cider and by the end of August they'll add a mix of farm fresh, gourmet food items to the products they bring to us  in Collegeville.

Frecon has been growing some of Pennsylvania's finest tree fruits since 1944.  Depending on the season, they bring us: cherries, peaches, plums, blueberries, apricots, nectarines, raspberries, apples, pears, pumpkins, squash and more.

Hopefully, there are still a few peaches left. We are not quite ready to say good-by!

We have eggs-cellent news from the Masts of Bendy Brook Farm.

Two weeks ago when Nevin's grandson Seth was at the market, people were asking about his new egg business and they wanted to see pictures.  So, his mom, Corrie, sent us this great one.  Seth has four hens that are laying now, and his sister Lylia is getting in on it as well.  She bought two chickens that are not quite laying yet, so in a few weeks they will have even more eggs!  The Mast kids are learning from Pop-pop how to produce highly nutritious eggs - the fence and coop are moved every few days to keep them on fresh grass, and they eat the same soy-free grain as the other chickens.

Also, don't forget to reserve your Thanksgiving turkey for this fall.  The birds are new to the farm and in limited number, and  just like Bendy Brook's chickens, they are raised on pasture and fed healthy, soy-free grain.  A $10 deposit will reserve a turkey that will really give your family a reason to be thankful.

Bendy Brook Farm is located in the beautiful Oley Valley. They offer premium grassfed beef, goats, and pastured poultry and eggs. All of their animals are hormone-free and the land is chemical-free.

These new kids on the block grow organically at Perkiomen Valley High School. This "Take Action!" environmental group is staffed by a great group of high school students, dedicated to making the world a healthier, happier place! They are waiting anxiously for their tomatoes to ripen, but in the mean time, stop by to talk to them about the work they do and to see what's fresh from their garden.

Not here this week:
Yellow Springs Farm - (Will Be Back Sept. 1)

Yellow Springs Farm Native Plant Nursery and Artisanal Goat Cheese Dairy, founded by Catherine and Al Renzi, is located in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. The farm and nursery consists of an historic farmhouse, dairy barn, a springhouse with pond on 8 acres of land. Al and Catherine raise goats on site and make fresh cheese every day.

Longview Center for Agriculture will not be at our market this week. They are hosting the Mater Tater Festival this Saturdayon their 120 acre farm at 3215 Stump Hall Road, Collegeville.

Fun and Free for All!

Bring the kids to see Al Angelo 's  juggling and feats of magic between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

And don't forget to get your free temporary tatoo!

Who are You Calling Fat Head?
 Spice Up your Summer!

Fat Head Peppers, LLC. was founded in 2005 by Mr. Fat Head, Mark Jesse Sr, who started the company after a 10-year quest to perfect the stuffed pepper recipe his family loved.

He was determined to create a "bigger, fuller, better pepper," and soon his unique combination of peppers, prosciutto, provolone, oils and spices became a favorite among family and friends. Even his feisty mother-in-law, Dolores Sena, loved them. In fact, she encouraged Jesse, who she affectionately called "Fat Head" to go into the food business. And so he did.

Today, Fat Head Peppers is a family company whose mission is to deliver the perfect pepper made in the USA. Stop by to see Mark at our market on Saturday for serving suggestions. They'll soon become a favorite with your family and friends, too.
