Come Grow with us!
Free Gardening Workshops!
Gardening Tips and Tricks, June 23, 10 a.m, Kathy Kline of Montgomery County Penn State Cooperative Extension has been a Master Gardener for 6 years and an avid gardeners for over 50 years. Her presentation is a fun, fast-paced interactive hour of learning gardening tips and tricks for novice to experienced gardeners.

"Organic vs. Non-Organic Gardening" June 30, 11 a.m. - Organic produce commands premium prices at the grocery store, but what does "organic" mean for the home gardener? You may be surprised to learn that organic pest control and fertilizers are not always the most eco-friendly options available. The toxicity and persistence of a pesticide have greater impact on the environment than its origin. Better yet, minimize pesticide use altogether through pest avoidance strategies and eco-friendly control options. You will also learn about the pros and cons of organic and synthetic fertilizers.
What will I do with all this produce? The Master Food Preservers of the Montgomery County Extension will host an educational demo at the Collegeville Farmers Market on July 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. They will present steps involved in preparing and canning applesauce. Visitors to the demo will have an opportunity to see and hear about the equipment, supplies and methods required to prepare and can applesauce, using up-to-date safe practices. Then they can take home free literature on safe and 'research-tested recipes' for preserving fresh fruits and vegetables. Now is the time to learn about safe canning methods or refresh one's canning skills so that we can make the most of the summer's bounty of glorious and healthy foods grown in local gardens.

Summer is heating up at Collegeville Farmers' Market this Saturday!

Since opening on May 5, our customers have been asking "Where's the fruit?"
And finally the much-anticipated, fresh, summer fruits and vegetables are beginning to arrive from local farms - sweet cherries from Frecon Farms, Down Home Acres' early tomatoes and greens, and blueberries from Longview Center for Agriculture. Plus, we'll have fresh corn on the cob.

It's down-right inspiring. That's why so many of our amazing vendors are using the market's growing summer bounty as a jumping-off point for summer-fresh recipes. Cherry corn bread or cherry vanilla gelato, anyone?
We really have a reason to celebrate! So Matt Dutton of Bigg Dutt's Barbecue Sauce will be firing up the grill for a fundraising bash featuring Bendy Brook Farm's burgers, hot dogs and chicken, topped with Bigg Dutt's small-batch, gourmet grilling products.
Bendy Brook Farm's meats are organically raised (no hormones or chemicals) and pastured, and their 100% grass-fed beef is lower in calories, total fat, and saturated fat than conventionally-raised, supermarket meats. But the biggest benefit is taste: you won't find more flavorful burgers and hot dogs anywhere.
So stop by to indulge in your first, delicious guilt-free burger of the summer, topped with Big Dutt's new Caribbean-style, Guava-Habanero sauce. Then wash it down with a taste of sangria from A'Dello Winery and sit a while at a picnic table and enjoy some family-friendly, pop and folk tunes by Winchester/Perry before setting off to savor the rest of our summer bounty.
Shop for unique gifts for dads and grads. Meet local farmers and artisans. And bring home a bit of the bounty to share with someone you love.
