Think Spring!
Time to Start Planning Your Garden!

Buy Your Fresh Winter Vegetables Now at the Longview Farm Store and in May at the Collegeville

Farmers' Market!

Spring is on the way!  Some area birds have started their migration back, and they are just beginning their amazing spring songs!  Seed catalogs have begun arriving too, and it is time to begin planning our gardens.  Just in time, the Longview Farm Store is now stocked with seeds from Happy Cat Farm, whose mission to to teach people to grow food sustainably.

Longview is also offering pre-orders of seedlings cultivated by their farm team for pick up in May.  The Collegeville summer market, which opens behind the AmeriGreen Gas Station on Collegeville's Main Street May 5th, will also carry flower and vegetable seedlings.  But if you stop by the Longview Farm Store and order your seedlings now, you can get them at a discount.

Fortunately, you don't have to wait until spring for local fresh vegetables--The Longview Farm Store is well stocked with Swiss chard, red beets, carrots, lettuce mixes, arugula, scallions, squash and herbs.

The following Collegeville Farmers' Market farmers and vendors will be at Longview this Saturday:

Mountain View Poultry Farm will be bringing plenty of free-range eggs, with a special of two dozen for $6.50.

Marie will also be handing out hot samples of their turkey BBQ, which is made from slow roasted pastured turkey and homemade BBQ sauce.

But that is not all. Mountain View will bring soups, sausages and marinated poultry, whole and cut up chickens and turkeys as well as all parts. Mountain View's poultry is never given antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. At this time of year, when the birds spend more time indoors due to the extra cold weather, their diet is supplemented with ground alfalfa to keep them healthy.

A'dello Vineyards returns bringing their  chardonnays: Chardonnay Reserve, Chardonnay Naked, and semi-sweet Cardonnel, as well as their reds: a Chambourcin, Merlot or Cabernet Franc; their Cellar Door Collection of rose wines and their delicious signature fruit wines.

Marcy's Granola is back with her six original flavors of artisan granola, including her newest, cashew with cranberries. Her granola is made with oats, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, and she uses only the finest oil and vegan friendly sweeteners to make it slightly sweet. Try a free sample on Saturday, and you can also pre-order from her website: www.shop.marcysgranola.com

and pick up your order at the market.

Little Lost Creek Alpaca Farm will be ready with all their alpaca products available--including their felted soaps, throws, and heavenly soft and warm socks, as well as handcrafted pottery by local potter Nicole Dubrow.

Memorial Day Parade!

Volunteers Needed!

Local residents are cordially invited to be part of the fun this year!  Your family, neighbors, clubs and groups are welcome to design a float or just march in the parade.

The theme of this year's parade is "Remembrance: of our Veterans, the Civil War and Collegeville History." The 2012 parade will include our veterans, elected officials, first responders, local churches, businesses, historical associations, community service and youth organizations, antique vehicles, floats, musicians, horses, a bike brigade, and-- most importantly--you!

The 2012 Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 28th , organizing at 10:00 a.m. at Waterworks Park in Trappe. The parade then continues up First Avenue in Trappe to Main Street, then east on Main Street to Third Avenue in Collegeville, ending at the Collegeville Community Park at Third and Park Avenues. A brief ceremony will be held there to honor our service men and women, followed by an afternoon of food and fun family events.

The Parade Committee is seeking individuals and groups who would like to participate in, assist with, and/or sponsor the event. This year's parade is a perfect way to showcase your neighborhood, business, school, or club to the community. Interested individuals should e-mail Russ Henze at [email protected] to get more information or to volunteer.

This is the second year for this event. Last year's parade celebrated the 300th birthday of Henry Muhlenberg, long-time Trappe resident who is regarded founder of the Lutheran Church in America.
