January 21st Market

New Vendors to Debut

This Saturday

At the Collegeville Farmers' Market at Longview!

New to the winter market is Yellow Springs Farm with their award-winning, artisan chevres: once you taste these fresh, organic, handmade cheeses, you won't buy goat cheese in the supermarket again. This week Al and Catherine are bringing their Red Leaf, Mellow Yellow (saffron infused) and Fieldstone chevres for you to sample, along with their melt-in-your mouth creamy rich caramel sauce.

Neil's Sharpening Service joins our winter market this week. Clean out your kitchen and garage and bring him all your dull knives, axes, hatchets, paper cutters, reel and rotary lawn mowers, food processing blades, pinking shears, chain saws, grooming clippers, and anything else that needs sharpening. Everything can be sharpened while you shop!  And while you are at Neil's stand, check out his unique pens, bowls, bells, toys and other products he has made out of wood with his razor sharp tools!

In addition to our two new farmers' market vendors, we also have your regular favorites:

Mountain View Poultry Farm will be bringing these new products: turkey, chicken and duck jerky infused with sea salt and an assortment of flavorings: vintage merlot, spicy curry, chipotle, lemon twist, vanilla bean, espresso brava, aged balsamic and sun ripened tomato.

Additionally, they have plenty of eggs-stock up!-as well as soups, sausages and marinated poultry, whole and cut up chickens and turkeys as well as all parts available. Mountain View's poultry is never given antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. At this time of year, when the birds spend more time indoors due to the extra cold weather, their diet is supplemented with ground alfalfa to keep them healthy.  This week, Mountain View is offering a poultry special of $2.00 off the purchase price of a boneless, skinless chicken breasts. You can pre-order by e-mail or phone: mtvieworganics@aol.com

 or call (484) 797-7829.

Red Haven Farm will be at the market with their lean and flavorful pastured beef, pork, lamb and products, including sausages, special cuts of meat, and their farm-fresh cheeses.

Marcy's Granola is coming with Marcy's six original flavors of artisan granola, including her newest, cashew with cranberries. Her granola is made with oats, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, and she uses only the finest oil and vegan friendly sweeteners to make it slightly sweet. Try a free sample on Saturday, and you can also pre-order from her website: www.shop.marcysgranola.com

and pick up your order at the market.

Bigg Dutt's BBQ is bringing Matt'sspecial sauces along with his rubs.

A'dello Vineyards' is bringing their chardonnays, including Chardonnay Reserve and Chardonnay Naked, as well as their reds, including Cabernet Franc and their signature fruit wines.

Little Lost Creek Alpaca Farm will have their alpaca products available-including their heavenly soft and warm socks--and handcrafted pottery by local potter Nicole Dubrow.

This season's expo and movies will focus on good food that's available to all. Each movie will delve into a different aspect of our food system. Learn how making small changes to what you eat and where you buy can make a big difference to the world!

February 14 - Queen of the Sun

 March 13 - What's Organic About Organic?
With charm and humanity, this film examines how organic farming evolved from a grassroots movement into a multi-billion dollar international industry. The film reveals what's at stake in creating and maintaining meaningful standards for organic production to protect citizen interests, the environment, and the livelihoods of family farmers.

 April 10 - PlanEat
The film details the search for a diet which is good for our health, the environment and the future of the planet. It presents a convincing case to re-examine our love affair with meat and dairy. With the help of innovative farmers, chefs and some of the best cooking you have ever seen, PlanEat advocates eating less meat as a step towards solving some of the problems we face today.

All movies are shown at the Ambler Theater, 108 E. Butler Avenue, Ambler. The Expo will feature local organizations and will provide surprise treats, handouts and information about buying and eating locally and sustainably. Stay after the movie for the insightful panel discussion!
