Appalachian Brewing Company Opens in Collegeville StationAppalachian Brewing Company

Appalachian Brewing Company was warmly welcomed by members of the community on Wednesday, May 11th when they officially opened their fourth Brewpub & Grill located at 50 West 3rd Avenue in the Collegeville Station (old Hemingway's spot; above Bonjung Japanese Restaurant).

"This location features all the great Appalachian Brewing Company beers, fine food and gourmet sodas that our customers have come to expect." states Brett Litten, General Manager.  "We have fully renovated this location into a brewery and grill serving ABC's full line of beers and a fresh innovative pub menu, plus a 5-barrel brewing system on-site.  The on-site brewery will produce exciting specialty batches throughout the year."

2011 Perkiomen Clean-up; 400 Volunteers Cleaned Up Our Local Waterways

Cleaning up the 362 square mile Perkiomen Creek watershed is no easy feat especially when it is cold and wet. But more than 400 volunteers braved less than comfortable conditions on Saturday, April 16th to participate in the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy's Annual Stream Clean-up. Volunteers of all ages were getting their hands and feet dirty and wet, pulling more than 100 tires and tons of trash out of the Perkiomen's many tributaries. A complete list of all the PWC cleanup sites can be seen at the PWC website, www.perkiomenwatershed.org under the Conservation tab.

PWC volunteers, respectfully known as "Watershed Warriors," collected enough trash to fill 3 dumpsters, enough scrap metal to fill 2 large 15 foot trailers and enough recycling to overflow a 6 yard dumpster. The PWC wishes to thank all who gave up a Saturday to make the Perkiomen Creek and its watershed a much cleaner place!

For more info about the Stream Cleanup or other conservation issues related to water resources, contact the PWC at 610.287.9383 or on the web at

The first of the 2011 Sunday Tours will start at both the Henry Muhlenberg House at 201 W. Main Street and the Dewees Museum at 301 W. Main Street in Trappe. At 4:30 P.M. a Buffet Style Picnic Supper will begin at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with a program by the Valley Forge Chapter of National Sojourners.

The Sojourners will present "Building of the Flag," the history and development of the flag of the United States of America evolving from the 13-stripe to the 50-star flag of today, and relate interesting historical facts in pageantry fashion. Performed in Revolutionary War military dress, members of National Sojourners are also members of the Masonic Fraternity who are or were commissioned officers, warrant officers, or senior non-commissioned officers in the armed services of the United States. They present this program as a public service for the education of history and encouragement of patriotism. Flag Day, officially celebrated on June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

Tickets will be $2.00 each, three for $5.00. Among the many prizes will be a cookbooks by Chef Walter Staib of City Tavern, a decorative side table, a print of each historic site (unframed), assorted wines, a large construction set of K'NEX, a Williamsburg Basket full of Raleigh Tavern treats, and much more!
